Cause of flares

Have had PMR for 5 years. Question: the primary reason for flares is the result of dosage of steroids? I was at 7.5 mg for many months and was feeling great. Was on vacation and wasn't going to try and taper. For no reason I can think of I have a flare .

Thanks so much

Flare can be result of taper ( lower dose then required to manage PMR) OR it can be caused by increased activity ( too much during vacation) OR it can be that PMR activity has increased and requires higher dose of steroids.... BTW this site is "under construction" ... Search for "healthunlocked".. you will get more timely response.

Travelling, changing the routine, changing time zone, walking more - all can lead to sore muscles and fatigue that may closely resemble PMR. But flares in disease activity can happen too - the dose that's been enough for months suddenly isn't any more. Even a fall can be enough to trigger a flare - that's been shown in a study. Any form of stress can do it - good and bad will impinge on the immune system.

And a lot of people are flaring at the moment - Covid-19 and all the changes it has brought about have stressed a lot of people. Some have held it together for months but eventually it takes its toll.
