Cbc

I was recently in the hospital for uedvt and pe. The cause was a picc line I had for 6 weeks receiving antibiotics for subacute osteomyelitis which occurred after stepping on a nail over a year ago. Three days before I was scheduled to complete antibiotic therapy and have the picc line removed I started having chest pains , shortness of breath and swelling of picc line arm. I was sent to the er, where they did an ultrasound and found a clot in my arm. I was immediately admitted to the hospital and started on heroin. While in the hospital the did a CT scan with contrast and found a clot in my lung along with a 1.2cm nodule. Upon my release from the hospital I was giving eliquis 5mg twice a day (after the initial dosage of 10 mg twice a day for 7 days).

That being said. I have been out of the hospital for 20 days now and my arm is still swollen and painful. Also I still have shortness of breath and chest pains. I had a cbc done today and my results make me nervous.

The one that make me nervous are:

Wbc of 21.5

Lymphs absolute of 3.15

Monocytes absolute of 1.64

Neutrophils absolute of 16.19

Lymphocytes% of 14.6

Neutrophilic segs of 75.2

All my other levels normal with some that are borderline high. But none of the other levels are low or even borderline low.

I was just kind of curious to see if I could find answers on here.

Sorry so long and Thank You.

Hi... I'm glad you are still seeing your medical team about your ongoing symptoms! Both osteomyelitis and clots from PICC line (UEDVT) are serious stuff. The only concerning things I see in your cbc are the elevated WBC and neutrophils, which sound like an ongoing infection. Since you started with a known infection, and there's that lung nodule, which could be another infection, I'm sure that's what your team is checking on. Equilis is a "blood thinner" to prevent clotting problems, but can be associated with bleeding problems, too. Please ask your doc about possible side effects and what you should report to him/her.

And... you said "admitted to the hospital and started on heroin" that seems very unlikely!! Did you mean warfarin (another anti-clotting agent) as heroin is a street drug and quite illegal.

    best wishes to you

      Ok, that's a relief smile

(I turned off the auto-correct on my phone for texting due to "one too many" like that!)
