I have suffered from GCA for the past 3 years and had tried several times to come off the steroids without success. I am now considering CBD Cannabis Oil has anybody tried this?

    Hi Ida,

I have ankylosing spondylitis and now PMR which I have had for 2 years.  I've been on opioids for a long time now and my respiratory specialist has decided after lots of different respiratory tests that the combination of inflammation of my ribs and the opioids are affecting the respiratory centre of my brain and causing me to have restrictive breathing issues.  So for the past  year Ive managed to cut my opioids by half and use CBD oil as pain relief.  It works really well for me - I take both the cold tincture and also the hot tincture which I use mainly for flares.  You put a certain number of drops under the tongue for 2 weeks which is how long before you feel the benefits and you increase the number of drops until you get the dose for you.  Getting the oils is expensive - around $185 AUD for both oils which last me for about 6 weeks.  The hot tincture gives me an added mild feeling of wellbeing which is nice.  I have the ok from my specialists to use the oils, and also have the support of my GP.  So it is worth a try to see if it can help you.  Good luck and all the best.

In my opinion, pharma is adding to the problems.

I played on that roller coaster with opioids for 30 years. No more

There is anew drug called Actemra that has put some people into a good remission.

You might want to go over to the healthunlocked forum, the PMR/GCA page, where there have been several conversations about this substance,  Not as heavily moderated as this forum so it's easier to share information about controversial treatments.

I went on Actemra (monthly infusions) because I couldn't get below 12 mg after repeated efforts and using the dead slow method advocated here - which works for so many. I'm now at 6 mg prednisone, and planning to drop to 5.5 or 5 next week, after my next infusion. The Actemra really worked on the inflammation, which is now in the low normal range after being sky high for over a year. Still had a lot of pain, though, and went from 7 mg to 10 mg at one point because I couldn't stand it. That's where the CBD came in. I started using a combination of CBD and THC (10:1 or 8:1) because a small amount of THC helps activate the CBD. One piece of good news - I was told chocolate also helps activate the CBD, so I use that too. With that, I was finally able to get to 6 mg with about 80% reduction in pain. I suspect that the pain I do have is from other shoulder issues - arthritis, rotator cuff, etc., which I also have. Good luck to you.

Just google the letters - it is the main psychoactive component. I won't write more here - it is likely to be moderated.
