Ceasing after small dose.

I am currently on 150mg Gabapentin twice a day. I have been on it for 3 months. I plan on stopping, reducing amount slowly. After reading so many posts, and all the problems others have had, I am a bit nervous, but mostly they are coming off larger doses. I am hoping that because I am on a small dose, it won't be so bad. I would love to hear from someone tapering off from a small dose, and what their experience was. I have so much respect and admiration for those on this site, and what they have been through.

    Hello Mammalu,

I weaned myself slowly off Gaberpentin and didn't suffer withdrawal symptoms. Since i came off them i feel so much better. I am sure they were causing me anxiety. I have found other ways of coping with the pain of which i have Osteo Arthritis as well as Nuropathy. Hopefully you will not suffer withdrawal symptoms if you go slowly. Good luck.

Hi, Doc started me on the med in October, 100mg a day for one week then 200 the next, 300 the next. I didn't like how I felt so tapered myself down in December. Last week was on 100mg nighttime. Day 3 of no med today. I'm sorry to say even after such a low dose I am suffering withdrawal. Dizziness, loss of balance, memory issues, flulike symptoms. But I'm bearing with it, and expect to feel a little better each day. Not going back on this medication. I send positive thoughts your way. Yes I would taper off very slowly. Hang in there, we will get through this.

So encouraging to hear Elizabeth's experience. Good advice to go slow.

I should have stayed on that 100mg a day for a little longer maybe. I went from 300mg to 0 too fast I think..

I was precribed 3 a day but only ever took 2, morning and night. I cut the morning one out first for about a mth.... then after a mth took the night one every other night for about another mth... then stopped. I only had a little anxiety during the withdrawal.

I will just add that i didn't always sleep well but that is something i struggle with anyhow. So you may have one or two restlesss nights, depends how you sleep generally.

I think I'm on day 5 now off gabapentin? Not sure, memory issues. Today not a good day,  dizzy, body pain, can't focus, memory issues. Maybe I should take it again? But I really don't want to. Can I get through this? Was a low dose. Thank you all for being there.

at that dose I stopped with no issues.  My doctors tried me on it several times and each time I stopped because of the side effects while taking it.  At that particular dose, I had no relief, so I stopped because of the blurred vision side effect.
