Have any of you  been tested for celiac or gluten intolerance? Just wondering.. I am about to take the test tomorrow, have suffered chronic fatigue plus flu like symptoms, nausea, dizziness, nasty taste in mouth plus tummy cramps for years and years.. someone mentioned gluten.

Hi Joanna, coeliac was one of the tests my doctor did quite early on and was negative. I don't have any gastric symptoms, just (just!) dizziness, fatigue, muscle weakness and being unable to think straight or see straight half the time. That's quite enough to be going on with, I think.

I hope you find some answers. I know some people have felt better cutting out wheat or other foods like dairy; I suppose it's a case of try it and see if it makes you feel better.

Someone suggested that I try going gluten free, I did for 6 weeks, made no difference.  Then I pigged out on bread, pizza, donuts, and bagels, still made no difference.

I went on an elimation diet for 9 months to find out what I was allergic to. Wheat and dairy products. I am also on the fodmap diet (you can find it on the internet) It has helped a lot with my I.B.S.pain.

Hi all, my test was negative , obviously I don't want to be celiac  but just want some answers! I have been ill for 5.5 years with dizziness, fatigue, aches and pains, nausea, insomnia, horrid taste in mouth, on and off burning when weeing, and just recently, this is weird, really strange smelling sweats eps at night., smells like mouldy, musty. like when you walk in someone's house and there dog's laying there in its bed and you walk past and get that off smell.. its really yukky and strange, my GP thinks its something hormonal even though all tests came back normal, she wants to refer me to an endocrinologist. I just want to know what is wrong with me sad

By blood tests came back negative for Celiac so was diagnosed with CFS. But as part of my recovery I went to a nutritionist and had a variety of food sensitivity tests and turns out I am gluten intolerant. I have now been GF for several months and it has helped my stomach issues and energy levels slightly.

After I was diagnosed with M.E. (not with a blood test there wasn't such a thing then) I went through an elimination diet for 9 months in 1992 to find out what I was allergic to. Gluten and Dairy products. Gluten for the stomach and dairy products for the face I had severe rosaicia (red itchy face) I only get the latter now and again so come off the dairy products for 2 weeks and then it seems to be allright again. I have slow transit constipation and I.B.S. so am on a gluten free diet all the time and i also have to watch what I eat and when I eat. I follow the fodmap diet, you can find it or send for it . goolge fodmap diet and you should come up with the information.

I too get a funny taste in my mouth and also sometimes a funny smell in my nose.

      Hi

I also have CFS, was diagnosed with IBS 20years ago but now have chronic constipation and slow transit. I have tried all the diets and supplements and nothing works so am interested you are on fod map and gluten free.

I have been given the fod map   but not tried it as thought it was more for diarroeha. I am going to start gluten free soon.

      What foods do you avoid?

The fodmap works for me. I was diagnosed with slow transit constipation. I also take Movicol prescribed by the doctor. I take one sachet a day. I cannot do without it.

When I first started on the fodmap it said do not take any medicines, so I stopped taking my Movicol, a big mistake, I had to have the nurses out to the house, I had severe constipation. Not a very nice experience.

I don't avoid any foods, it is mixing foods that is the problem or eating too much of anything at one go. I have had hypnotherapy on the N.H.S which helped as well.

I still get stomach cramps and have to think hard what i have eaten, often it is just vegetables. I don't eat meat but that is not because of I.B.S.

I have tried various pills which make me very sick so don't take any of those.

I was told I should try anti-depresants so after a very bad episode of stomachs cramps I tried them, never again the side effects were very bad.

Everybody is different so I thnik anything is worth a try.
