Cellulitus and continued burning ??? Is this normal ???

Hi

Wondering if you could pass on your experience with this damn celulitus, i recently came back from India Goa,with this infection .The GP said was caused through suspected mosquito bites, probably they had been some where dirty before they had bitten me.I was given Flucloxacillin 500mg x 4pd, and zinc bandages to wear on both lower parts of the legs as both were seriously affected. The next day i was in so much pain i went to A&E they advised to not use the bandage, they also upped the dose to 1000mg x 4xpd.Nearly two weeks after i,m still on antibiotics,as i was getting all tingling and burning now above the knee into the thigh,as well as in lower legs.Did you have the burning sensation ? is this normal to what this infection causes ? I really can,t seem to find answers on line or from GP.

The GP did say on my last visit which was Friday that the infection had caused all the blood vessels to burst in my right leg, leaving it quite angry looking and when i stand to long it turns dark reddish purple.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Reguards Tracey

      Hi Chris,

Did the burning spread on you as well though ? I only started to have burning in my thighs after about a week, than originally just in the lower legs, and tingling as well , each day since it started it feels more intense

I was on antibiotics 45 days when I switched doctors to be finally diagnosed properly. I then was on 10 days, another visit and 7 more days. My foot did not feel right after all those antibiotics, but eventually it did calm down. My bite was between my toes and the swelling never went above my ankle. I think you're infection spreading is severe and should not be taken lightly. I would see a specialist about the veins.

Thanks Jane for your reply have seen the GP today and she said the infection had also damaged the nerves. To look at my legs look 90% better apart from the blood vessel been damaged, and the tingling and burning higher up into the legs, she put my mind at rest,so i am going to finish the antibiotics and take ibupofen for the nerve problem and see if that helps me.

Thanks for your reply Paul i have seen the GP today, and she said the burning sensation what i am feeling is now  nerve damage, which i totally get and understand now,so it,s put my mind at rest.To look at the major redness has subsided along with the swelling,it has burst the blood vessels in the right leg so that doesn,t look great ATM.

In the first week i did put a mark on the lower leg and it didn,t spread, but i can get now completely if the nerve is damaged you would feel the burning and tingling ,through out the nerve path. I,m a sportstherapist so i get the anatomy and physiology side of it. Tell me how you got it 3 x though please. I want to avoid this like the plague !!

      Never again !!

The moderated reply went through i think they were just checking to see if was postable for some reason,it,s the one about me saying saw the GP and saying about the nerve damage. Came away with another presciption amytriptaline only a small dose of 10 mg which i take at night to settle the nerve complaint.Oh i,ve started to take all my vitamins again Vit C great for the skin, also started to take organic chlorella which is a natural detoxifier, amongst loads of other exellent benefits ,helps support the immune system, check it out.

I,m getting through loads of moisteriser, and drinking loads of water

No open sores been religious with moisturisng and i think the anriseptic cream is helping loads. Both legs i know they ovbviously liked the sweet meat,as someone described it wink. The left foot does swell most times i go away,so a water tablet just before you go on holiday you reckon would stop that ? I wear flight socks and try to get an aisle seat on the plane, but have even had the swelling going on a cruise ,so no flying involved at all there , weird i guess ??

hi trace water tabs are taken daily and socks are worn all time but you need them to do tests on legs DOPPLER For proper compression socks i would talk to doc about them and water tabs   if as you say your legs swell     does he/she knowits up to you but i would  it can only help all round but leg test must be done to wear socks regular so the nurses tell me    somtimes i only take half a tab  and if going out NONE so trace as i say upto u sounds to me like you may need them u could measure round calf ankle in morning and then late on in day and see if is swelling  my calf went from 24 to17  but i am a big boy  ok trace pick the bones out of that lot  what bugs me with this is they get you better but dont give any follow up checks well hugs again trace
