Central serous retinopathy CSR/CSCR

Hi Everybody.
.
It has been a while. Hope you all are doing ok? My wife's eyes are doing very well. It has been over a year now since her Cataract surgery in both eyes.
.
As some of you might remember, her cataract stress got me really good. I took it all too much to my heart and released stress hormones (cortisol) which resulted in fluid build up behind my left eye retina, next to the macula. It was not affecting my vision in anyway as the upper retina layer was still smooth and flat/not lifted. Eye doc said that it will auto resolve in a few months but it never did. In last 1.5 years I had 4 eye scans and first 3 showed no increase or decrease.
.
Well that changed last week after my wife got slightly injured! Next day I started seeing slight bump on straight lines. So for example doors, lines on website, bathroom tiles, street cables, all have slight bump wherever I focus and move my eyes. I went straight away to the eye doctor and she did retina scan and as thought, the fluid build up has increased and it has created a bump on the retina surface too, which is causing the bump in my vision 😦
.
It has been 1.5 years since this fluid spot was diagnosed. Typically CSR auto resolves in few months and vision returns to normal. In my case it has not, so I guess it is chronic and I am very fearful about my future eyesight 😦 I have to go back in January and hope it auto resolves. Last 1.5 years have been one health problem after other for both of us!
.
I made a rough diagram to show. Anyway I thought I would post here to let it all out!

W-H, so sorry that you're going through this. Your posts about your wife's surgeries really helped me in deciding what kind of IOLs to get, so I thank you very belatedly. Wishing you the best!

Sorry to hear about the issues you are having. I have no personal experience but from what you describe has macular degeneration been considered?

Bookwoman, thanks. I am glad my ramblings helped you. Good luck for the future too 😃
.
RonAKA, I don't think it has anything directly to do with AMD. My vision is clear in the eye. Well some floaters in both eyes which come with age.
.
Until last week I had no visual symptoms. If I had not got a general eye check up 1+ year ago, I would not even have known that I had CSR.
.
Stress is the only semi-known cause (genetics maybe too?). It did match my stress situation timing. My wife had an accident last week (not as bad as I initially thought) and straight away I got stressed about it and next day I noticed the minor waves in straight lines. So it seems like the stress was the final push for release of more fluid that caused the bump in my retina.

Hi W-H nice to see you back. Missed your input here. So sorry though to learn your condition has worsened.
I too have very similar visual issues with straight lines being curvy. Was diagnosed last January with epiretinal membrane - something that typically doesn't go away. I still see things clearly when both eyes ate open. It is when I close RE that it is noticeable. I was referred to a retina specialist but unfortunately still waiting for that appointment. COVID likely delayed that.
Feel for your situation and hoping a solution can be found for you.
How is your wife? Did injury involve her eye? I too had an accident last Oct. Broke my shoulder in 3 places and had surgery. Still immobile and on disability from work. Not fun and looks like a long road to recover.
My best to you.

Hi Sue,
.
Yes I remember your "epiretinal membrane" issue. It seems that it can stay stable for rest of your life after the initial issue. Hope that turns out to be the case for you in the long term.
.
Ouuch!! Regarding your shoulder! 😦 You must have been and probably still are in lot of pain!!!!
.
My wife's eyes are good now (fingers crossed). Funnily it was her shoulder that she hurt last week! Looks like the long head of the bicep tendon came out and then went back in to the shoulder bone groove. At the time I thought that the actual joint popped out and back in. Luckily no major tear in the tendon. Had an ultrasound test done yesterday for the second time since the incident by an ultrasound specialist. All looks good and in place. Few more weeks and she should be pain free, so me getting stressed was not even worth it!
.
It is my left eye and I am seeing normal when both eyes are open. First time I noticed it was with both eyes open though. I straight away got the Amsler grid out and rest is history. I have no blind spots when using left eye only but the grid has distortions. Not major but enough to freak me out!
.
If it gets worse the eye doc will send me to see if I am a good candidate for cold laser therapy. They will put some medicine in my veins. Once it reaches my retina/fluid build up area, they will fire cold laser on that spot and thus photo activate the medicine and hopefully that might seal the area. Scary as the spot is right next to the macula 😦
.
Ok I do some meditation to relax now!!!

Yes W-H good not to dwell on it. Nothing we can do to change things and worrying does is harm. The what ifs get to me too at times and it is a constant struggle to bring a balance of peace and calm.
Yes still in pain but off all those strong meds. I had to wait 3 days in hospital before surgery. And covid restrictions prevented any visitors so these were the longest days as you can imagine. I was bumped 2x due to other more urgent surgeries. Glad to have it behind me and today I had the shoulder x-rayed and saw the surgeon. Now the long road of physio therapy but I will get there. Was odd seeing a big plate in my shoulder down my arm. It was that or shoulder replacement as it was a very bad break.
Keep well and safe W-H
