Cerebral Sinus Thrombosis

I'm 32 and recently suffered from the above. It was only detected after suffering 2 weeks of intense headaches which eventually affected my optic nerves in my eyes. I wear glasses and after 2 weeks of intense headaches my eyesight actually became much better which baffled me. I was sent away from GP with the diagnosis of a tension headache (which I don't hold any blame for) but luckily I pursued further and booked an immediate appt with an Optician who found that my visual field was affected in my left eye. I was advised to go to the Emergency Eye Casualty who continued with further tests on my eyes. They discovered the damage to my optic nerves but at this point were unable to find the source and I was seen immediately by a Neurologist who at first thought it was benign cranial hypertension. He arranged a CT scan and said that he did not expect to find anything but was very surprised to see the clot on the CT. I was admitted immediately and underwent a lumber puncture. I spent 5 days in hospital and was discharged on Warfarin medication for 3 months. I have since undergone a repeat CT scan. I believe I was very lucky as any longer I could have had a stroke. I was advised to stop the oral contraceptive pill immediately as they said this may have been the cause but also that I have recently underwent a breast reduction 3 months before.

    Hello.

Its exactly 1 month since i got CVST diagnosis.

I had severe headaches for three days, nothing that i had experienced before.See,i am a doctor and in doctors lie the greatest fear always thinking of the worst. So i ordered for myself an MRI/MRV and thus confirmed my fears.

Had been on YASMIN for dysmenorrhoea for 37 days only with no other risk factors.

so i checked myself in and was started on anticoagulation with clexane.

Am now on Warfarin. The headaches wont stop and give me a break!

    Back to work.

Reading all these just gave me hope! Am not alone!I have cried in the past,i have had panic attacks,i have thought of the worst.

And that so you know we shall overcome.

hi everyone, thought I'd post my story

I'm 1 month on from discovering i had cvst in my left sigmoid sinus and jugular vein. Likely related to recent miscarriage and dehydration. I'm a sonographer and discovered it myself by scanning my neck after 3 days of mild head and neck pain....i was shocked when i saw the thrombus in my jugular vein and went straight to A&E where a ct scan confirmed the rest. Luckily there was no brain injury and i had no seizures or anything like that.

I was able to go back to work after a week which was good, but i definitely felt anxious.

The clot in my jugular vein took 3 weeks to dissolve and i'm having an mri scan in 2 weeks to look at the clot a bit further up in the sigmoid sinus.

i had some strange pressure headaches for 10 days afterwards but they seem to have gone, because they have gone my anxiety feels less and i nearly feel normal, though its early days of course.. My head also felt a bit weird when i lay down but that has improved dramatically. Sometimes i see a white circle in my vision when i squeeze my eyes shut and when i lay in certain positions at bedtime, though i expect this will resolve over time as it's already improving.

I'm ofcourse extremely lucky i was able to catch the clot very quickly despite mild symptoms. None of the A&E drs had seen it before.

i know carry around a 2litre bottle of water which i religiously drink
