Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis headaches

Hi all, as you know I've experienced a blood clot in my superior sagittal sinus 6 months ago. However my recent MRI showed the clot has dissolved and they don't see any scarring either.. I did not suffer a hemorrhage, just a seizure which left no damage or anything.. Anyways I'm still on blood thinners, I have an appointment next week with my Hemotologist hoping to come off the thinners, this will be my 6 month of treatment. My question is has anyone still had headaches post blood clot? I still have some pressure headaches right in the back of my head sometimes. I've read that headaches are common after having a clot.

I'm on blood thinners too (warfarin, in my case) and one of the things I have been asked to look out for is headaches.  When my INR went up to 5 (my target range is 2-3) I was told to go straight to A & E if I had a severe headache, or a headache which didn't clear up if I took paracetemol.

It's possible that your blood thinner is what is causing your headache, get your INR level checked and discuss it with your haemotologist as soon as possiblle.

Best wishes for a good outcome.

I think they asked you to look out for a headache when your INR was high in case you had a brain haemorhhage as your blood was  "too thin". They probably also asked you to look out for blood in your urine etc etc. Headache isn't a side effect of warfarin per se.

Hi, yes I just got my inr checked last week, it was 2.3. Its been stable for about a month now so I'm not to worried about that. Do you still have headaches at all ? The pressure I feel in the back of my head sometimes is nothing like the pain I felt from the clot so I'm not sure what it is.. And now my clot is gone with no scarring so I'm confused..

Thank you, misswoosie.  Yes, I realise it was due to the spike in my INR - I've only been on warfarin since March, and it has taken a long time for my blood to stabilise, which hopefully it has over the past month.  Yes, I had nosebleeds too, and bleeding from my gums ruined a few pillowslips, thankfully not for a while now, and it's levelled out at 2.2 this week.  Hope it stays that way - thanks for the advice.

Hi Melanie, I only seldom get a slight headache, probably due to eyestrain, or possibly the humid hot weather at present.  With an INR of 2.3 you've nothing to worry about on that score, as misswoosie said, headaches are not caused by your bloodthinner (I expressed that badly)  but by your blood being too thin, which it ievidently sn't with a reading of 2.3.  If I were you, I'd seek professional medical advice, either from the doctor who is treating you for the clot, or from your GP.  There can be any number of causes for headaches, so I'd get it checked out, for peace of mind and to get it treated.

Hi. I think a lot of the time the stability is delendant on the skill of the people managing the warfarin. Does your GP pratice do it or do you go to a specialist warfarin clinic? Glad it seems to be stabilising now.
