Cervical Fusion c5-6, pain after surgery please help

Posted , 4 users are following.

I had a cervical fusion c5-6 back in nov 2015, now in almost april im still having extreme pain in my neck and shoulders. My surgeon and pain management are in the same practice, after taking 3 months to get me a pain management appointment the doctor states to me he will not be giving me pain medication, but instead wants to do injections and i still have to wait another month for those. I have been doing pt for a month and a half. Muscle relaxers dont help. i understand that they a relucatant to prescribe pain med, but i only take a 5mg every 8 hours and im pain free. xrays done after surgery show everything is fine, everything is not fine this is not ok, im in extreme pain and now they dont want to help me and im not sure where to go from here.

Well, you have a conflict of interest and basically missing an unbiased view of your aches. I would go to another speciailst with pain management. Most of the time insurance will not allow you to do more than XX procedure every so often. It's also likely you have a second level needing attention, and will like me, need a second level fused. Bad news though, it's never going to go away 100%, you will always have pain, so once you come to terms with that, you can at least get rid of your frsutration. Good luck!

    Hi Jessmarie

Pain is awful to deal with, I suggest you talk to your family doctor and perhaps go to another pain center, we have one here called North West pain center, they are many places in washington, check on line to find all pain centers close to you. I go to this one and you don't have to wait long or have a doctor referral. Hope this helps.

Hi jessmarie0612. I feel for you and have you in my prayers. If you do not mind me asking, is it caused by osteoporosis as a relative of mine has been diagnosed with it?

Thank you very much. If it helps, my relative says intentionally doing more and more good things that distract her mind from the pain can help. For example, watching favourite shows (especially funny ones as laughter triggers feel-good chemicals called endorphins that also help with pain), following a passion or more, reading, etc.
