Cervical lippy info

Hi

Following an MRI scan I went to see my GP, who said that I have cervical spine lipping. She didn't quite know what it is! But has referred me to physio. I have gotten my info from Google, so I know they are bone spurs. I have had inflammation and pain flair ups to my back, neck and shoulders for 10 years. I wondering what may cause that? Is it arthritis?

If anyone is has any experience of this I would be grateful for the share.

It PT doesn't help well it did help much for me other than help teach me how to move and not do certain movement.

ask for a spine specialist they can help treat spurs which are small boney  growths with laser treatment.

It is a form of arthritis if there causing to much pain u can have them shaved I am really unclear as to why they think physo will help. It's not going to remove he spurs. Maybe u need to see a rheumatologist too. Or neurosurgeon

Oh ok it is arthritis. Having visited a private PT for an initial assessment some time ago, she said my spine didn't feel arthiritc, but obviously the MRI has confirmed otherwise.

Sorry I forgot to put in my reply that I have been referred for nerve testing. If theyre inconclusive then I'll be referred to a neurologist. I'm also going to ask to be referred to a reumatologist x

Restorative ortho neuro surgeons specialize in freeing up the bone issues that cause pressure on the exiting nerves. Regular ortho surgeons do not do that type of skilled work, but restorative surgeons do.The cervical area is more tricky to do surgery on because of neck saelling and aevere pain that the patients have afterwards. That is why the reference is usually to physio first.

    Thank you ladies.

Thank you for your comments. No I'm not sure how physio will help either apart from to help improve posture I guess. At the end of the day, you're right, it doesn't get rid of the spurs. The GP is newly qualified and didn't seem to know what the results meant so I'm also guessing she wouldn't know the basic course of referral.

I'm in a course of naproxen (again) being in pain this week. I'll give the physio a pop and probably keep bugging the doctors if the pain management isn't improving x

Extra bone growth is always blamed on osteoarthritis, which for the most part is true. But if you have ever had any spinal surgeries where spinal glue has been used, the glues do cause overgrowth of bone that is frequently blamed on osteoarthritis. Many insurance companies are now prohibiting the payment of the use of bone glues because of the issue of bone overgrowth.
