cervical spine spondylosis

Hi

Im 45 and have just been diagnosed with cervical spine spondylosis and also have Scoliosis of the cervical spine.  I have weakness in my right arm and tingling down to my hands.  Im now also getting dizzy spells and a tightening feeling in the chest bones.  My orthopedic surgeon wants to put a peg in a do a fusion.  I really don't want to have surgery.  Has anyone had similar surgery and happy they had it or could anyone advise on better exercise regime or an alternative to surgery as I'm really paranoid I'll end up with problems later!

Many thanks

I have cervical spondylosis, multi level bone spurs, lordosis, multi level disc bulge c6 being the worst and just woke up this morning with my neck in spasm😡😡😡 i see my chiro pracror weekly if I can but havnt seen him for a month and this is what happens to me anyway, he puts my neck in traction and I can only go on my own experience but I swear he's held back surgery for me so far, I had a lumbar fusion 14 years ago and will do anything to avoid another one, the reason I havnt seem my chiro in month is because my lumbar fusion has failed and I'm spending most my life in bed right now and can't get to see him but I'm there tomorrow and hopefully he can sort me, try chiro, acupuncture and anything else you can to avoid surgery, it really should be the last resort, good luck and let me k ow how you go 😊

Carolineq8...I too have multilevel bone spurs, & multi level DDD, & yes, the muscles in my neck spasm as well, especially the one on the left side at the back. It's more of a twisting sensation, but most annoying to say the least. I also get headaches at the back of my head...sometimes they thump, sometimes not. I also have severe narrowing of the foraminal neural opening at C4-C5..so I'm wanting to know what can be done about this. Although the nerve may not be actually compressed, it makes sense to me that if there's severe narrowing, then perhaps the nerve is irritated. As long as the nerve is irritated, I'll have pins/needles going down my arm, into my fingers...or even the cause of the spasms.

I too saw a Chiro &had extensive treatments from last Sept. to March. Now I wonder if I'd wasted my time/money. They cannot correct deteriorating discs...I as told that the curvature of my cervical spine wasn't as it should be, yet on the result of the MRI taken Aug. 13/2017 it was stated that the curvature was NORMAL. Go figure!!! I believe the MRI. Afterall, the Chiro cannot see inside the neck. Yes, the Chiro did x-rays last Sept., but remember, they are not medical practitioners. Chiros do have their place, don't get me wrong, but in all honesty, if they can alleviate problems with coughing, headaches, etc.etc...there wouldn't be the need for medical doctors. Be careful with your neck...

I totally understand where your coming from regarding chiros and I have had a terrible experience a long time ago but I can honestly say hand on my heart my chiro has helped me more than any doc or medications Iv been on, he has also been head hunted by neuro surgeons here were I live to send there patients to prevent going under the knife because he is so good at what he does. Even tho I highly recommend chiro treatment I'm also very aware that not everyone has access to someone as good as mine and there  are some out there not so good but then I could say the same about surgeons, unfortunately not everything works for everyone and we have to suffer a lot until we find what works if we're lucky.

I hope today is a good one for you and thank you for your concerns 😊

sas109...If you're nervous about what's been told to you by the orthopaedic surgeon, then why not seek out a second opinion. Usually, a Neurosurgeon would be the one doing the surgery, at least that's the case here in Canada. Perhaps you have compressed nerve as well???? Or the scoliosis is pressing on a nerve???

By all means, you are entitled to a 2nd opinion if you're hesitant with what the Ortho is telling you.

Thanks for your responses. I am now going to go to a specialist physio and an osteopath and try to avoid surgery for now!
