Cervical Spondylosis ?

I'm 28, work in IT, sit 8h (With 5 min smoking breaks/h) in front of the pc and a few more at home. Exactly a month ago, while on vacation in the mountains, one morning after eating breakfast and sitting down to drink my coffee I started having light dizziness. I panicked cause I was never dizzy in my life and it was new to me, except after nights of drinking. The whole day was scared and worried. The next few days were ok again. Then I had days with light dizziness at work a few hours, then sleepless nights because of panicking that I can't sleep and what is wrong with me. Meanwhile I feel very light tingling in left arm fingers and sometimes in left foot as well. One day at work I panicked because of feeling a little dizzy again and went to the companies onsite nurse. She took my blood pressure and it was at 160/85. I started worring more. She thought it could be a calcium or magnezium deficiency so she gave me a Berocca tablet. After I left her office and before taking the tablet I returned to normal. Next days again I was confrunted with light dizziness, tingling in left hand and foot at random times, mostly at work and very bad sleepless nights. So I went to my GP. She sent me to take blood and urine test. The results of those were PERFECT. Every bit. Blood presure was once 140/85 and 130/85. Next, I went to a neurologist. After 10-15 minutes talking to the neurologist and going through some exercises she told me I have cervical spondylosis and sent me to an xray. Result of the xray is that I have deformed neck from siting to much at the pc and small lower osteophytes. The neurologist said its absolutly nothing to worry about, the dizziness and tingling will go away, especially if I change my lifestyle. This was 2 weeks ago. Since then I go every other day swimming for 1h, daily neck, back and sholder stretching in the morning after waking up for 20-30 mins and will soon exchange car for bike, and go walking as much as I can. I am not sporty at all. I am 187cm and weigh 90 kg constant for the last 3-4 years. This is my story.

Now, because I was NEVER in my life sick (only the ocasional cold) I am very sceptical about doctors and would like some advise from other people, because I am bit scared right now. I still experience light tingling in left hand and sometimes feels like it will go numb (but never did), can't remember when I last time felt it in the foot. Dizziness appears for a few minutes in the morning when I sit down at the PC at work, goes away shortly after. I now quit smoking (its been 4 weeks and don't miss it), instead stretch arround in the work breaks and after lunch I go walking for 30-40 minutes. But being scared about the situation I tend to "feel" different symptoms including being weekend (probably all in my head). Bottom line: is it possible to be affected by cervical spondylosis ? If I keep up with the lifestyle changes, will I have it under controll and will the symptoms go away ? Any advise is appreciated.

Ivan.

Hi Ivan. I suppose it could be called dizziness, or vertigo. It could be connected to the CS, but it could be caused by something simple like an ear infection. Dr would be your best option to find out the cause.

Chiropractor can adjust the bones and muscles so the trapped nerves are loosened. Had it done on me for a while and I am now free from the pain.

Also scientists have found out our bone renews itself within 2 years and the bones within 3 months.

The words of our mouth will determine how fast we heal and get out of the condition.

I correct my posture for standing long as a trainer and for sitting long as  counsellor and working in front of my PC, I make sure I get up and walk to get a drink every 45-50minutes sitting session.

Hi I am working on computer 6hours in one day and 9 hours the next day alternatively. With break for 3hours in 9 hours shift, and 45 mins drive to work.

    I am 52.

Many days its not possible to take break in between because of the work load.

I have developed cervical spondylosis with posterior osteophytes indenting the thecal sac and spinal cord.

Although with exercises of neck my pain is better but symptoms of burning, numbness, weekness and pin and needles in my back of head, neck and rt. Arm comes up with in an hour of starting my computer desk work.

I need advice from experts and public that changing my job to non computer work will halt further progression.and will be better for me.

I do have an option to switch over.

I really need an straight forward advice.

    Waiting for the reply.

    Hello all you wonderfull people.

I am replying so late because at some point last year when I was feeling like described I told myself that I am ok, fine, healthy and PERFECT. At 28 I cannot be sick, and, as doctors told me, there is nothing wrong with me. So I quit reading all the medical crap on the internet and just went on with my life. I must tell you that all the things I have described went eventually away. The entire year up untill now I had absolutly nothing. Today I remembered about me posting here and I wanted to see what has happened. Reason why I am writing now.

Anyway, I also had a head / neck MRI last year and everything was OK !

So, nothing left to say here, till this day I cannot explain what the hell was wrong with me last year but the past is the past. I must say that had some positive effect on me. I am still going swimming every other day, since April I bought a bike and ride it like crazy and to work since. I wish you all a good and healthy life.

the best things to do for this if its not serious enough for surgery are correct positioning  while sitting at your computer.  My doctor told me to make sure my screen was at eye level, whatever I had to do to achieve this.  Since I move from station to station at times during the day, I simply adjust the height of the chair.  As for sleeping, NEVER sleep on your stomach, it will make things way worse later on in life (I know from experience).  I too have had episodes of dizziness that lasted weeks which are awful and make it impossible to work or function at any normal level.  I had a "mild" injury at 18 yrs old that did not affect me significantly beyond neck pain and stiffness for many years. I  had ACD&F surgery in 2012 due to the constant pain, numbness and tingling in my left arm. The surgeon talked me into it stating that if the nerve damage was bad enough it would not resolve.  I have since learned that had I waited and tried more therapy and modification to my environment it may have resolved some on its own. Now 3 years later I still have the numbness, tingling and pain in my left arm, and am now having symptoms in the right as well.  This is symptomology of more problems that may or may not have been caused by the first surgery.  The possible remedies are more surgery or more modifications to daily living.  After all this info, my recommendation to you is to be very conscious about your positions both sitting, standing, walking and sleeping.  Exercize to strengthen the muscles in your neck, shoulders and back.  Don't "pop" you neck, ever.  Even if you feel you need it.  And get mutilple opinions.  A surgeons goal is to perform surgery. Remember that.  Had I been advised of these things when I was your age I might not be in the state I am today.  Oh and Look up neck exercizes.  A lot of them are very simple, such as leaning your head from one side to the other to stretch the muscles, turning your head from side to side, slowly, to stretch.  Put your finger on your chin and push. This moves the cervical spine backwards, gently.   After all, don't you sit with your neck pushed forwards most of the day staring at that computer screen?  Breathe deeply.  This relaxes all the muscles.  It sounds all very simple, but trying to remember to do it daily for the rest of your life may very well save you from having to go through what so many of us have, and then possibly regretting it.  Prevention is always better!!  Good luck!!

    Ivan,

Stumbling across this thread makes me feel like im not crazy after all. I am 28, sit at a computer everyday (Graphic Designer) Had a whiplash injury about 8 years ago, been to chiropractor to get straightened out. I still have neck pain. Tingling everynow and then and that weird falling sensation you are talking about. It started not long ago. If i bend my head backward and really bare down it seems to make it go away. I can feel the muscles at the base of my head tighten up and im not sure what that does but it makes it go away. I have the weird feelings in my arms and hands. especially that misbehaving feeling. feel like my hand could get a mind of its own and go crazy. Anyway i just wanted to reach out. Have you found out anything else about whats going on?

      Hi calebt777,

Like you, I am also glad to have stumbled across this thread and your comment. I am 43 and have been having odd sensations like this for 6 months. I had every test done, saw half a dozen specialists and believe now it is all caused by cervical spondylosis. My MRI showed something but no cord impingement. My spinal doc said neck issues don't effect legs but I have to disagree.

Like you I have a desk job, computers. Symptoms change but have included

      -muscle aches

      --tingling

      -cold in hands feet

      -burning, various places

-sometime sadness and I'm not a sad person, no reason

I did have about 2 weeks of no symptoms and all I can say is I wasn't sitting as much, was in the sun/heat. It's not that simple because I have had issues in the sun too but it does seem to help. Hard to say what I eat or we exercise helps, maybe if I was more consistent.

Anyone who has other suggestions, I'm open to anything.
