I can tell you that I am in very similar shoes right now and prior. I had CES surgery within hours of being diagnosed (this was in August 2013) and came away very lucky. They did not fuse my disks so they just removed the disk so that my spinal chord could heal as much as possible.

It was a hard recovery but am good on bathroom 1, and #2 is just different than before. I do have some bad nerve damage on the entire back of my left leg including my butt and my three outer toes. I do have some nerve damage in the saddle area as well as the private area. I was approved to try and get pregnant from my sergeon when I was post-op 6+ months (only because that is when I asked) and gave birth to my son in November of 2014 via c-section.

Dr warned me that I would probably have more back pain than the normal pregnant women and that it was between my ob-gyn and me, but he would suggest a c-section because they were not sure how it would effect my back as well as how pushing to give birth would go with me having not all feeling down there. So I went in knowing that and was perfectly fine. No more back pain than the normal pregnant woman I don't think.

Currently I am 30 weeks pregnant with my daughter (due at the end of January and will have a c-section) and have come to the conclusion that I had some nerve damage from CES to my uterus, and I can't feel everything the baby is doing (was this way for my son and now as well for my daughter). This can be good or bad, towards the end of the pregnancy it is not good because you look for those feelings to make sure baby is ok, but at the same time I feel like it is good because the baby doesn't keep me awake at night as much. I do feel things and see my belly move and things like that, so I know all is ok, but I know that I have nerve damage in there uncourtly.

The hard part is more of once the baby is delivered, and it is harder on my back as my son is getting older and wants to be held (of course by me) and picking him up and down, cleaning up toys, and general just kid stuff. He is a year old now, but the alternative to this is not being able to walk and not even being able to have kids at all. I will take my situation because I know a lot of people with CES have it worse than I do, and I am so happy to have my children.

The worst part of all of this I think was having to get off narcotics, so the baby did not have problems. Once I have this baby, I will probably seek help on pain management to deal with my back pain and eventually have my disks fused. If you have any other questions, please let me know. It is a hard situation, but you will get through it and have a beautiful child in the end.

Good to hear that she is getting better. I find that my second pregnancy has been worse than my first. Not sure if that has to do with my first being a boy vs the girl I am due with right now. They say when your pregnant with girls it is a little worse. I wish your wife luck that things go well. It is all worth it in the end. I do have to say that I am hoping that the next two months go by fast for me! If you need any advise or have questions please feel free to let me know.
