Have just recently been diagnosed by my neurologist having ME/CFS...heads all bit of spin at mo, glad to finally have diagnosis but was told is not cure able but manageable. Awaiting appointment now for ME/CFS specialist centre who am hoping can answer all my questions. Was just wondering if other women had problems with their periods and this could be associated with the condition. Am coming on period every other week, bleeding quite heavily and very uncomfortable and painful. Draining me on top of everything else. Any help appreciated

Debbie,
I think the answer is a definite "YES"! And I'm glad that you have brought this issue up because I have suspected just such a connection for myself.( I also am having the frequent and heavy periods issue). There are two reasons I said that I beleive that "yes" there could be a connection is that I read about a woman who actually was a gynecologist herself. She started having the symptoms of M.E. She came to find out that actually her hormones were out of whack. She was at the peri-menopausal stage of life. Which symptoms of ME are you experiencing? The other reason is because I read in a book by a ME specialist that some woman with ME are aided greatly by hormone supplementation. If you want me to, I can private message the name of the book to you.
Dawn
P.S. I have brought up the hormone connection concerning myself with a doctor and she blew me off. It was not a gynecologist.

Well I had a TIA 18 months ago, am currently awaiting yet another brain scan...having been struggling with extreme exhaustion, not just tired, completely exhausted, coordination issues, struggle to even coordinate the stairs on bad days, memory loss, extreme muscle like pains in my arms and legs, pins and needles in my feet and feeling like struggling to swallow, generally most days feel like i have been hit by a truck Must admit I had never even heard to ME/CFS before. But doctor said it can be brought on by illness/trauma and my stroke was probably the original cause. Have really struggled with my periods for as long as I have had all the symptoms, had ultrasound internal etc but everything came back normal. It's so getting me down, it's not just spotting it's full on heavy period, then off for few days then starts ago. The pain is getting alot worse as time goes on and even to the point of making me sick. I am seeing my GP again next week, so will bring it up again. Thank you for yr reply.

Youre very lucky yo have m.e centre we have nothing like taht where i stay. I had m.e severly several years ago took me a year and a half to recover. But recently ive jad a severe relapse brought on by depression and my mum dying. Yes definatly heavy periods are a huge part. Please ask if you javent already to get youre B12 iron and vitiman D checked. Ive been on b12 injections for 10 years. Just started iron tablets and vitiman d today as im anaemic and deficiant in vitinab d. I definatly think you could also be aneamic thiigh as heavy bleeding will caise this. Im waiting to see the neurologist to make sure its not m.s as having severe numbness and headaches x

Am 44. Yeah I totally know what u mean....and it costs a fortune!! Had a ultrasound a few months ago and assume everything was ok. Just don't think it's helping with the tiredness....and last few periods had to cope with feeling quite nauseous, on top of cramps and heavy bleeding. Guess I just want someone to way a magic wand lol

Goodness just re read and god that must have been scary having a stroke at your age. My friends husband had a really bad one when he was 36 and his speech walking everything went. He can still barely talk much or walk unaided. That must have been super scary for you. They do say m.e can be triggered by so many things. I had a head injury abroad when i was 21 and never been the same physically since. How are you now apart from the m.e x

Yeah wasn't good, was in hospital for a while, spent quite a lot of time in denial, as I thought exactly that 'strokes only happen to old people' but was very lucky as ambulance was called very quickly and with the care and rehabilitation I got I count my lucky stars. Had a fantastic stroke nurse for a few months after I came home, she was one in a million. Lol, I feel exactly the same, like an old biddy, needing daytime naps and take so many tablets as it is that I am sure I rattle.

Hi to Kelly Deb and others; it has been stated that many women who have been given a diagnosis of ME/CFS/Fibro, have also had a history of gynae probs. I, too, had Endometriosis for many years, prior to being diagnosed with fibro. I am wondering if Deb, and others, should not go and talk to their/a Gynaecologist, and ask re having at least a D&C......this could help with your heavy menstrual cycles (it cleans out the lining of the uterus)....and even consider having an Hysterectomy if past Child-bearing age? I will also advise, though, that major surgery such as an Hyster, can take a long time to get over, if suffering from Fribo/ME/CFS......I did not actually complain of the CFS symptoms until I had my Hyster, but had already been having Fibro symptoms: so deep thoughts need to go into thinking about the Hyster, but a D&C should be ok, as this is only a minor op. I had trialled Hormone Treatment to ease my Heavy mentsrual cycle, but this only made the bleeds continual, instead of easing them up, and re-regulating my cycle. thought for you all. Bron

Hi all, I had menstrual probs in my late 30's, long before M.E./CFS. I had sterilisation op, which cured me.
Sorry to all gents having to read all about 'women's problems', (just be glad you don't have them!!)
Regards to all.

Did your neurologist suggest you be tested for Vitamin B12 Deficiency as there is a definite link with this and CFS/ME and other autoimmune diseases and it is so often "overlooked".
I wish you well.
