Change in bowel habits

First of all I apologise for being so gross!! Has anyone had a change in bowel habits? I go from constipation to diarraeha . I do have diverticulitis and always check for bleeding which I haven't had. Lately I have noticed a small amount of mucus in my poop. Not a lot and it can be white or clear. I don't have any pain but am a bit gassy. Can hormone changes effect digestive system and bowels?

Hello Kylie
I had UC and then an illeostomy.... My sister has diverticulitis and my dad had bowel cancer so I am well trained in gross 😂 so in my experience hormones can interfere with digestion and toilet habits but equally it could be the diverticulitis which would make more sense. Obviously when it's in flare up you get the bleeding, so if that's not the case it could be: food intolerance, medication, worry, hormones, not enough water.... All have an impact on your bowel. It's obviously not a good time to see a doctor (lol) but you could try: keeping a food diary and watching your symptoms, drink plenty of water, try something for inflammation like buscopan and keeping a really plain diet for 10 days (white foods like rice, potatoes, white bread etc but watch the fibre). Hope that helps but I'm sure all will be well xx

yes I am thinking it could be diverticulitis but who knows. These hormone fluctuations can cause chaos on our body too. Definitely not a good time to go to the doctor. I will monitor it though and see how things go over the next couple of weeks. I have taken my somac today so i will give that a couple of weeks to kick in also. Thankyou and again sorry for the gross Lol

morning Kylie,
I was just about to look on this site, as I am so worried about my bowel habits. I have always suffered with IBS and I know it flares up if i'm stressed or eat the wrong sorts of foods, but I was in tears last night as I had another bad night with the stomach cramps and dirrohea. I was saying to my husband how the flare ups happen more, he said I am continually stressed and have been eating the wrong sorts of foods, as now we don't go shopping much. I have noticed since the menopause my stomach plays up more , and since the menopause my anxiety is really bad which makes the IBS worse, I can go through phases where its either consipation or the other. I am going to try and stick to plain foods for a while. I see a homeopath and she said that the Menopause can cause stomach/digestive issues, I 've noticed that I am more gassy too.

Good morning
I have just woken (I'm in Australia) and my belly isn't feeling the best this morning either. Like you I am stressed also with what's happening in the world and of course my health anxiety. It's hard to keep smiling everyday when all these negative thoughts are running through my head .Thankyou for taking the time to reply, it does help knowing others understand x.

This year or early last year I stopped my bc and I went from my of mostly diarrhea to constipation. I don't have anything else like you have all mentioned. I'm 53 and put on bc 3-4 years ago not sure exact except I was having flashbacks from my ptsd and the gyno thought it would help and it did.
