I've read this quite a few times from people who've had a different brand of their usual medicine, and though I don't 100% know why this happens, I have read that though the 'active' ingredient is still the same, its often the 'inactive' ingredient (the shell, coating) that can differ.

If you have an old empty box, compare the PL number on the side to the new pills. If its the same then the meds should be exactly the same - if not, then some of the ingredients may be different.

Ask your Pharmacist or Doctor if you can get hold of the previous brand as you're getting side effects - they may be able to.

I've not had this from the citalopram but I have noticed a real difference with the clonazepam that I was taking last year. I noticed a change in the look of the pill and it made me a little nervous but the pharmacist assured me it's the same ingredients. Well, after I took one they definitely did not help the way the other did, it was awful! And they had told me that the mfg that I was getting them from had discontinued them. Anyway, thankfully I don't need them anymore to worry about it. I would just do what I had to do and that is call around to see who carries that mfg and switch pharmacies if you have too. Also make sure that they make a note on your account saying that you only want the brand that you have been taking, most places will order it for you.

    Best Wishes!
