change to optic nerve

Went for routine eye exam, visited the same opticians as last year, i have a family history of glaucomca, during checks with the light machone the optican advised that there was a definate change to the size of the nerve at the back of my left eye. He  gave me a letter and told me to take immediatly to my GP to get hospital referal. ive not a clue what this means but id always thought you got a cloudyness to the eye if glaucomca was present, i do have other medical problems all relating to back issues and osteoarthritis. take lots of meds . Any guidance will help .

thanks

it means you need to get checked with ophthalmologist to get it checked more thoroughly for any retinal problems. Nothing to worry.

    Dear caz

    Look at the clue?

An immediate referral to eye clinic at hospital thro your GP, if you are in UK you do not need to wait for that. Just do it rather than wait for amateur advice.

    Itmay be nothing or something!

I agree with rocky. It is better to get the expert advice.

Iagree that you need to get the expert advice. Dr Google is not the answer it just gives indications but a dr is necessary to carry out an assessment as we and dr Google cannot see you neither are we doctors.

Whe i placed this post  i did not expect medical advice only others whove been diagnosed with the same optic nerve problem, to hopefully calm me.. Ive had to wait 7 months for the chance to see the specialist which is worrying, had i been abler to get access to them via A& E I WOULD BEEN THERE DAY 1.

    UPDATE********

?Went to the eye hospital finally on Thursday last week, Had a range of test some similar to what the optician completed. The field range test result they said wasn't as it should be with my left eye, However im confused, they put some stuff in my eyes a yellow stuff and another substance, then examined it via the microscope thing, don't know correct name, at the end of this exam she said she could not see the change that my optician had seen on 2 examinations. I said how could he of seen a change, swelling but now its gone, all she would say was all she knew was it was no longer there. then sent me to get some images taken I had 2 different types of photo taken and told 6/8 weeks I would get the full report from the eye consultant once he had seen all the results together. Im now left not knowing what the hell to think. I did tell them about some other symptom's I am currently experiencing. with pins & needles in my arm and a type of numbness in 2 fingers , dizziness extreme tiredness nausea, just incase it makes a difference, I was told to mention by my GP.  ILL LET YOU ALL KNOW WHAT THE FINAL REPORT SAYS
