Changed from Citalopram to Sertraline

after 15 years of taking cit my GP switched me to sert as the cit wasn't working for me.  I was on 30 mg of cit and he switched me to 100mg sert with no tapering as he said the drugs were from the same family so not necessary and that I would feel better in a week.  Well it's day 14 now and I feel like I have a stomach bug - upset stomach, feeling sick, dizzy and anxious.  Just wanted to know if this is to be expected when switching?

    Hi I have been on sert 50mg for 6weeks and I have the same things you have it is getting me down now I will go back to the doctor cross this week

    I was having side effects like that when I first started and then into day 5 of being on 100mg, Your gut is just in flux as this is where the serotonin is produced. It will pass over time.

    I started taking Sertraline about the middle of February, I said to the doctor that as I was having such anxiety because as I've had COPD for 14 years, it 'm having such problems breathing, so he put me on the Sert, but after 2 weeks, I was still having breathing problems, but also once again Cronic bowel problems, I had loads of tests all last year because of my Cronic pain and bowel problems, which turned out to be Diverticulitus, after me worrying all year that I had Bowel Cancer, but when I told the doctor that I was having such terrible flutulence all the time, and even walking down the shops which was highly embarrassing then I nearly went to the toilet in the street!!! To which he said he would recommend upping the dose to taking 50 mg night and morning, but I've refused to take them anymore and slowly my bowels are better, on Reading about the side effects of Sert I got so angry, and I'm going to see him next week to ask him WHY HE PUT ME ON THIS BLOODY AWFUL DRUG........

    Hi Sue, I'm so sorry to here you was switched so drastically, I've never heard of anyone starting off on 100mg this is a huge leap, I'm no doctor but maybe you should have been started on 50mg or at least tapered down from the citroplam, please go back to a different doctor for advice, you'll be suffering from withdrawals and dealing with a new drug, I'm really concerned over this. 😔

      The dr said that 30mg of cit is equivalent to 100mg of sert.  Am on day 17 now and still feel yuk - going to see him this afternoon.
