Changes in blood pressure as a result of venlafaxine?

Recently there has been a change in my blood pressure and the doctor now wishes me to wear a monitor for 24 hours to see what readings they get to gain a better picture of what is going on. I have read that one of the side effects of ven is raised blood pressure. Has anyone else experienced this and what happened as a result? I have been taking the drug for 18 months for pain management and depression.

hello, ive been on ven for coming up to 5 months now, and have just started on 262mg. i had my blood pressure taken at the start, and only a couple of weeks ago, and it hasnt changed, while on ven. i dont think it would be ven directly that increases your blood pressure, but any increased anxiety, from starting ven, or if it stopped managing your anxiety. a few years ago, while on seroxat, my first reading was 184. i was heavier, and more anxious, as seroxat had stopped working for me, although i didnt realise at the time. my first reading on ven is 135. i was thinking ven would cause me blood pressure issues, but it hasnt, and im on quite a high dose. my anxiety while on ven has been lower than for a long time. i take it you dont drink anything with caffeine in it, beause anyone with anxiety should not touch it. i would say its more likely to be your anxiety levels than ven, causing am increase in blood pressure, although you ate taking ven to manage anxiety. hope this makes sense

Anxiety under control but have had some weight gain over the respective period, 18 months. Ven is known for increasing blood pressure as a side effect. I will wear a 24 hour monitor and see what the outcome is. I suppose there is a chance they may wish to change my medication.

I have been on Ven for a year now and YES my blood pressure has raised.  It even says on Mayo Clinic website that Ven will raise blood pressure. I am going to try to come off after I go to my doctor.

    Good Luck

hello, all anti depressants can cause increases in blood pressure. ven, prozac, tryciclics and mois in particular. the key word is, they can increase it. weight gain certainly will. for myself, and somebody else i know, ven hasnt done so, probably because its working well. seroxat isnt particularly known for increasing bp, almost the opposite, as its slightly sedating, but because it wasnt working for me any more and i was overweight, my bp was at a dangerously high level. your doctor will be able to make the right decision, when he gets the results.
