Changes in breasts with HRT

Has anyone else experienced increased firmness in breasts on HRT? I'm not complaining but just concerned about the risks with breast cancer.  Over the years I've gone from a C to DD and much firmer breasts.  Your comments welcome.  Lyn

I've known other women to get larger breasts due to HRT. I wouldn't worry about that, I don't think it is related to increased risk of breast cancer, it is to do with fluid retention which is a side effect of HRT.

    Hi!

Yes, I just got my second set of HRT pellets implanted and mine are tender.  I hear it is normal.  I am waiting to feel ten feet tall and bullet proof.  Ha! Ha!  I do feel better than I did though.

I guess what it boils down to is would you rather have the symptoms of menopause (I don't you how severe yours were) or the side effects of the HRT (bigger boobs, weight gain, etc.), some of which you may get, some not.

Lynn, I also went from a C cup to a DD in meno.  This is very common, as our tissue no longer has the estradiol stimulation, so they seem to grow. Since we are getting mainly estrone in meno, that seems to be the culprit for overgrown breasts.   I can't say mine were firmer, just bigger.

With HRT, it seemed my breast pulled back up and got a little smaller.  When I experienced some density (firmer feeling) was when I also had some progesterone with the estrogen.  But of courses there are receptors in the breast tissue for these hormones.  However, keep in mind that even the WHI did not show an increase risk of breast cancer on estrogen.  The risk went up with adding the synthetic progestin that was used in that study.  However, the current recommendation is that even breast cancer survivors can use vaginal Estrace without problems.

Lyn, I should have mentioned that when I initially started vaginal Estrace, yes, I did have a few days when my breast seemed firm and perky.  They didn't hurt, felt normal and I thought it was FABULOUS!  I felt 10 years younger.
