Hi i am in the process of trying to get a diagnosis for an autoimmune disease. Has anyone else had changes to hair texture? Previously healthy hair is now so dry and brittle and breaks very easily. Overall in really bad condition now 😔😔

Yes definitely for me. My advice is take a bumper vit d supplement and zinc. Maybe have both levels tested as mine are often low as is vit b12. All can affect your hair and commonly affected with auto immune disorders.

Hi Margaret. Thanks for the reply. Can I ask what condition you have? I have other symptoms but this one affects my self esteem. It's so bad at times 😔 I do have low vitamin d too.

I have dry brittle hair also that Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism has caused. It's terrible. Every time I was my hair, I have a large clump of hair I have to clean out of the drain. I used to dye my hair, but had to stop about 2 years ago, because the last time I did, patches of hair were coming out. I literally sat in my bathroom and cried. My hair is just too damaged. It very slowly has got better now that I have been on thyroid medication for 5 years. Also, I too have low vitamin d, so I have been taking 5,000ui a day. I believe this helps too. I plan on getting some other vitamins and minerals tested too, as I suspect thats not the only thing I'm low on. If you use a hair dryer to dry your hair, make sure you keep it on low or maybe medium heat, not high. Also, try to never use a hot iron. It's just to harsh on our delicate hair. Air drying the best and lots of moisturizer. Baby it.

Hi melissa. I don't have any thyroid problems apparently. Just that i have a marker and will develop in the future. I need to dye my hair every 3 months or so. I have so many grey hairs and only 36 😔 I have been referred to a dermatologist for skin problems too. So maybe they can help with hair problems? Also my scalp at the front gets really itchy. Don't know if that's due to my hair bring so dry???

You can get auto immune conditions which affect the scalp. Definitely speak to your dermatologist about it. And try some paraben free shampoo.
