Changes when on low doses of Pred, 2 mg to 3 mg

Yeah !!!! I am finally getting down to below 3mg. What a relief! I realise others have probably asked similar questions to me, many times before, but I am old, tired and have forgotten how to look back on the site for previous information.
Has anyone experienced some weird mental 'changes' at this stage of lowering the dose ? I noticed changes when I first took Prednisone, so I thought changes may happen as we get low on our dose as well. My main problem is my memory has taken a much worse dive in the last few weeks. Has anyone else experienced this ? My other problems may be influenced by world situations, but my fuse has really shortened recently. I am a little surprised by this, as I am actually in a very favourable situation, during this world chaos. Has anyone had any mind changing alterations at low doses ?

This has come up a few times recently on HealthUnlocked but most have been a bit higher, say 5-7mg.

confirms my suspicion that memory problems can be found with adrenal insufficiency:
"Patients with adrenal insufficiency (low cortisol levels) can get impaired memory, though lethargy, fatigue and weakness are more common. This is also reversible fairly promptly with hydrocortisone treatment. In general, as with most things in life, you need ‘just enough’ of each hormone: too little or too much can cause memory problems."
Do you have any other signs of poor adrenal function? It may be your body is still playing catch up from where you were still OK to now - but it would be worth asking for a synacthen test now you are at 3mg to see if your adrenals are still capable of producing cortisol. If they are it is just patience, if not, they may offer you hydrocortisone. Or at least tell you about emergency need of it if under stress.

Thanks for this reply. I will take a copy of this to my NEW Doctor. There has been a rapid decline in memory in recent weeks which is a little disturbing.

Wonder why the link didn't come up as a link - how strange!

oh my goodness I have missed you all! No notifications at all in my inbox. Yes I can so identify with memory problems. I am still on 4.5mgs and the tiredness and lethargy lead me to give up trying to remember. Very interested to see there maybe some connection and relieved to hear of hydrocortisone treatment. Have not had any blood test since Nov 2019, covid seems to have startled my gp into hibernation as next scheduled review is August 2021. Out on a limb here and have been resigned and not a little stressed. As usual forum to the rescue. Will try rattling a few cages. Thank you Flutterbie57 for highlighting this and Elaine forever coming up with positive suggestions.

"No notifications at all in my inbox"
You now only get notified if someone replies directly to you - nothing to tell you there is a new thread from some poor sod looking for advice. I haven't been here for over a week, there were 15 unread notifications - more than half replying to the request for forum feedback. Which really says it all doesn't it ...

Rubbish! Why can't it go back to how it used to be when I felt supported? Now just a general feeling of being let down in the name of modern technology.

Tell me about it. And to add insult to injury it is now logging me out every time I visit ...

No - Alan the moderator did say at one point that you get signed out after a period of non-use or something. At least I have a note of the password!!!!
