Changing citalopram after 13 +years help please

hello everyone. I've been on citalopram 13 odd years recently I've lowered my dose from 40mg to 30mg due to having heart palpitations so doctor recommended me to go down to 30mg. Well doctor wanted me to stop taking the citalopram for 6 days so she could do an ecg to see if it was the citalopram causeing them but I only got to day 3 and I was a mess long story short I ended up at hospital as I was so unwell and suicidal. they gave me some lorazepan so I restarted citalopram went to 30mg. so now I've been on 30mg for 7 weeks I am alot better then I was but still not 100% still don't feel myself no energy.low mood, not bothered about anything. allways want to sleep. my question is my doctor wants me to try a new medication which I'm petrified about as she said I have been on it a long time just wondered if anyone has changed citalopram after so long and did anything else work. I've never tried anything else so I'm worried that if I change I'm never going to get better and feel myself again, anyone else changed and felt it was the right decision or do you think I should give it abit more time ect? thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully reply 😊 x

Why change it if it works? I have never heard of a DR saying just stop meds for 6 days? that is quite dangerous in my opinion. Are there no other tests that can be done with you still on it?

I think you need to get your body to normalize again first. Can you cut it down to 35MG and see how you go? Best of luck to you.

hi I'm currently tapering off lexapro after 10 years due it not being affective anymore, I was on 15mg last week tapered to 10 now I'm on day 3 of 7 days of 5mg before I get prescribed a new medication. I totally get the fear ,the medication is like a crutch!
