Charley horse pain in back

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had scoliosis surgery in 1979.  Over the last 10 years, I have slowly developed a "charley horse" type pain in the right side of my back, where it sticks out like a hump.  The pain makes me stop in my tracks and it usually goes away after about 15-30 seconds.  It is so strange and it seems to be happening more often.  Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi,

I had my surgery in 1974. My upper "hump" has not bothered me too much, but my short leg caused my lower back to develop another curve over the years. So, I think that even though our original curves were corrected early on, things do settle and change as we get older. I was having significant pain, but I keep it at bay by practicing Bikram yoga.

I have never heard of that yoga, but will check it out. I've learned that over the years the discs above and below the rods have weakened. I have different pains here and there, but ibuprofen usually takes care of it. I feel thankful because I know others who have had many problems. Thanks for your reply.

You're welcome, that's mainly why I'm on this forum, to spread my story. I was literally crippled with my lower back pain and could barely walk. A spine specialist told me I needed to have a second surgery to put rods in my lower back this time. After my first few Bikram sessions, my pain was GONE. 4.5 years later, it has yet to return as long as I continue to practice 1-2 times per week. I highly recommend it for back issues!
