Chemicals as in cleaning polish etc

Just thinking does anyone think that what you use to clean your house can have an adverse affect on your health I've always been a cleaning freak using when I think of it bleach disinfectants polish air freshner plug ins all of which I've now stopped as thinking I don't think they could be good for health although in last 12 weeks since having post viral fatigue it's not me that does the cleaning as finding I can't do much at all

    Hi

I can't say I've noticed this in particular but Iunderstand that some people are more susceptible to chemicals than others

Personally I don't use tons of bleach or disinfectants to clean worktops etc as I think we need to process the odd mouthful of bacteria. As and when necessary I think is best, that and open up the windows to let in some fresh air.

I have found that since having M.E. the fumes off bleach and cleaning products really don't agree with me. I now try to use more natural cleaning products some of the time like Ecover. If I do use bleach or other stronger cleaning product I put a face mask on (life the ones workman use) and open the windows. It might look weird but it does help!! Am also now allergic to perfumes, scented candles, etc.

    Hi there,

Yes, they do affect people. I can't use the usual products and have had 3 asthma type issues with carpet cleaner. If I go to places where they have used chemicals (those squirting perfume machines In toilets really afftect me) it makes my CFS/ME worse.

My sister spent several days in hospital a few years ago after collapsing at home and she has huge problems wuth plug ins etc and can't go to hotels /restaurants that use them.

Ps I use method and ecover too : )

It's amazing how these substances are allowed to be in products if you ask me : )

I can't use man made chemicals. I have multiple chemical sensitivity and the only things I use are bicarbonate of soda, white wine vinegar, lemon. They work bettter!

I use bicarb and white wine vinegar in the washing machine and dish washer and for cleaning surfaces etc.

I recommend a steam cleaner because you can clean everywhere with them without using anything but water. They do a fantastic job too!
