Hi there

On August 28th 2018 i was in a car accident in which i injured my chest. i went to hospital where they gave me x-rays and said i had a bruised sternum (i think thats how you spell it?).

my chest was very sore for a month or so after and i had to take things easy. every so often now i have mild pain in my chest, almost like throbbing. it may be down to my anxiety but i dont know.

Check out costeocondritis, it's a recurring chest pain that can be brought on by trauma, also because the sternum can also take some time to completely heal after something like a car accident.

Have you discussed this continued pain with your medical practitioner just to rule out any minor fractures etc

Always best to ask the question simply to put your mind at rest.

Does it actually feel tender when you press it

Hello R... I have also injured my sternum several times throughout my life starting as an 8 year old.

Unfortunately, my injuries have caused me quite a

bit of scar tissue to the point that it has become a part of my chronic pain condition.

Then, due to my Fibromyalgia and other autoimmune/connective tissue diseases, I have wound up in the hospital a few times for Costochondritis. It is NOT life threatening but a

very painful condition and due the location, I always have to have cardiopulmonary issues ruled out first. So I not only have a rheumatologist, neurologist and orthopod, I now have a cardiologist, pulmonologist on top of my other specialists that I have to follow up with fairly often.

I almost forgot about my health anxiety and PTSD and due to me being 53 and smoker, my cardiologist says that we can't just ASSUME the Costichondritis in the future without having a cardiac workup each time. Like he said, akways better to be safe than sorry.

So, good luck and I wish you all if the best! Please take care.

    Susanne
