Chest Pain and painful when coughing or taking deep breath

Hello,

Thanks first of all for those who take time to respond. I appreciate your insights based on actual experience.

I was diagnosed with PMR almost two years ago , now down to 4 mg of predisone a day. I generally am feeling very good except I have some chest pain when I breath deeply and cough. At times it feels like I have a lung problem caused by smoking except I never did smoke.  I have been fully checked out by cardio speacialists and they tell me my heart is excellent. I am careful regarding diet and exercise regularly. Have anyone had similar pain ?  Thanks

Hello George.. It may be nothing to do with PMR.  I had similar problem quite a few years ago and it turned out to be pleurisy.  Hope you soon improve.

Hi there I sometimes get pains around my ribcage and collar bones when breathing deeply. Might to be deferred muscle pain from pmr areas

I too have had/have a simialr pain.  All the suggestions from the other commentators are valid.  You could also have "chostochrondritis",  It is an inflammation of the rib bones.  It is most commonly caused by prolonged coughing/

Have you been seen by a pulmo MD?  A chest xray would be a good starting point.  Then I would ask to have a "DexiBone" scan done to check for osteoporosis or fx's of the ribs.  About 6-7 years ago I choked on a piece of meat and coughed so hard I spontaneously broke 4 ribs!  It didn't really show up on xrays but when I had the scan done it was confirmed that I had indeed fx 4 ribs!

These are just a few suggestions to you post.  Hope they help!
