Chest pain.. help

Hello

Yesterday I had random chest pains, it then made me feel very light headed and very dizzy. This was then accompanied by a lot of shooting pains in my left hand and pain in my back. Since then I have not felt right and although the pain isn’t as bad, it still has been coming and going today, with me feeling like I’m short of breath. I visited the doctors who took my pulse and listened to my breathing and said it sounds and looks perfectly normal.. but I am still feeling unwell and the symptoms are still there. Need some advice on what to do from here. Thanks.

    Hi Joe

well the first thing is if YOU really dont feel right go hospital and they will run some basic tests (blood test, ECG and chest x ray)

I would take some reassurance with what the doctor has said though it isn't worth their job and title to send you away.

do you suffer anxiety or depression? or have you sone any strenuous work recently that may cause chest pain.

      Hello

Thanks for the reply, I do worry a lot but it just dosent feel right to me, ive had aches and pains before but this feels different. I do suffer from anxiety and have recently suffered with depression. Even this morning I had some palpitations and felt very out of breath when i was getting ready for work.

I was the exact same, get out of breath walking to the bathroom startrd thinking I had heart disease, angina, then pulmonary embolism, before finally accepting it may be depression and anxiety and starting sertraline since then I have had them upped to 150mg and diazepam as and when needed.

this was last september in this time the health anxiety has had me down hospital several times for ECG's, another chest xray and numerous blood tests but all have come back fine. I have pushed my doctor to see a cardiologist but am still waiting for an appointment there.

when we worry our bodies release more adrenaline this causing the feelings of doom. Anxiety can and will have you thinking so much I still think my heart is bad, then when I think this my left arm aches, chest pains become more apparent, head starts feeling hazey etc so I try not to think.

best thing is to get checked out if it hasn't got better and at very least I would push for a blood test. when the heart isn't well it releases a certain enzyme which they can check in the blood

do you have a family history of heart problems?

It's certainly a little reassuring your doctor feels that it's probably nothing serious but these are typical symptoms for angina or a blocked artery. My husband recently had very similar symptoms and went to A&E - after a lot of waiting and indications he'd just be sent home, we kept pushing and they finally admitted him. Couple of days later they did an angiogram and he had a major blockage in his main LAD and several smaller blockages and will now need multiple bypass surgery. If he hadnt had the angiogram, we may never have known how serious it was. To make sure, push for further tests.

If I were you I would go to A & E you cant be too careful with chest pains, they will give you an ECG to see if your heart is ok, better being safe than sorry. I had them for 3 days before I went and learned then that if your having a heart attack its vital to get treatment asap and not wait. please let us know how you get on.
