Chest pain & shortness of breath

Posted , 2 users are following.

Have been experiencing pain in my chest for number of weeks, accompanied by almost constant shortness of breath. When I lye down the pain gets worse and my back then begins to hurt as well. Pain is there when I wake and remains all day.Hoping someone has any view on what this may be?

Thanks

James

Yes, get yourself to the hospital and tell them what you have just told us.

you have fluid in the sack that your heart sits in, possibility caused by a virus, give away is pain when you try to lie flat, it can get serious enough to constrict the beating of your heart, and that can be life threatening.

Why do I know this, your are describing exactly what I had, could not lie flat, pain, then could not breathe, felt like an elephant was sitting on chest, given injections, and tablets to take for a couple of weeks, all cleared up, but if it comes back again I would recognise it easy.

Thanks so much for the quick response. Ive seen my local GP a few times but theyve not been able to diagnose me thus far. I have an ecg booked in a few days. Would the issue you described above show on a ECG?

Yes - ambulance transported me as they thought I might be in the early stages of a heart attack, x-rays showed a big bubble of fluid around my heart.   Hospital kept on monitoring for about 12 hours, in ER short stay area, I presume because they didn't have any beds in the wards, but to be honest if things were to go wrong there seem to be a lot more staff in ER room than on the wards.
