Chest pains

Hi all,

I have just recently been diagnosed with oesophagitis after going through an endoscopy!!

I have had bouts of really bad chest pains ongoing for about 2 years which has ment trips to the hospital as the pain was so severe I thought I was having a heart attack, I have read that the chest pains can last a couple of hours maybe less however my chest pains can go on for days it's actually pretty scary when it happens!

Doctor prescribed me omeprazol 40mg a day but it isn't working I'm still having these episodes of extreme chest pain along with other symptoms of burning in the chest area and upper back pain also dizziness and dry mouth!!

I was just wondering if anyone else suffers like me with days of chest pain when they have episode!? Feeling alone and scared sad

    I suffer like you I have been to so many Emergency room cause of my chest. I am having a hard time swallowing right now my head hurts sometimes my mouth dry right now. I have so many different things that happens anxiety I just don't understand. How can something come alone take over your life the way this has done me I always think I'm dying.

      I feel exactly the same the pains are so bad I actually think I'm going to have a heart attack!

      It completely takes over my life im now scared to eat in case it starts these pains off again im frightened of eating the wrong food just icase it triggers it!

      I'm 3 days into another attack i spoke to my doctor today who has changed my meds and put me on a really high dosage for 2 weeks just to see if i can get any relief.

      Also do you ever get like a bloated feeling like trapped air? Sounds a bit bizzare but I have this feeling at the bottom of my ribcage.

      Yes!! I have trapped air I can't go to the bathroom my head hurts I get so dizzy. I just feel my life is over cause this stuff hit anytime. I just feel awful and I want it to be over. I be so hungry sometimes I'm scared to eat or drink most of the time. I pray we find what we need to get over this I'm on omperazole 20 mg and ativan for anxiety. I have only been on these meds for almost a week so I guess I need to give it some time to work but I'm tired.

    First off all you are definitely not alone, I understand completely how you feel, I too have suffer this reflux or 2years and am on 20mg twice a day, like you they are making no great difference, so ts very frightening as we worry what's happening to our oesophagus plus what side effects ppi are having on us, in recent times I have had unbearable chest and face pain like someone is press a cement block on my chest all day, take comfort from the fact that your recent endoscopy showed clear, that's what's important, do you this acupuncture would help

      My endoscopy showed burns on my osophagus doc also says im having spasms!

      I do take comfort from my results as i know it could be a lot worse.

      I'm glad i finally have answers as i was getting more and more anxious about what was happening to my body!

      These pains in my chest can last days it's horrendous i had to take a day off work today because it was so bad.

      I just want to feel normal.

    How long have you been on this medication it takes time for them to work and time for you to heal

      Hi Gill I've been taking these meds for about 4 weeks i know it's early days but they haven't made the slightest difference if anything made my symptoms worse and more frequent.

      My doctor changed my meds as she thinks it could be irritating it.

    Hi can’t believe your symptoms match mine exactly going to see a specialist on Thursday as I haven’t had a diagnosis as yet. I honestly thought it was something much more

      It's awful isn't it, I've just had yet another sleepless night because of these chest pains ive tried everything to ease it but nothing seems to help!

      A new symptom that's just started is dizziness im not sure if this is part of this oesophagitis diagnosis or not.

      I can honestly say apart from child birth I've never experienced pain like this!

      I sometimes also feel like I'm trying to swallow something down like there's something in the back of my throat, maybe that's the damage to my oesophagus im feeling when i swallow i don't know!

      Some people describe a cough I've not had that neither have i felt a burning sensation in my throat.

      But acid must be creeping up as the evidence was there on the screen 4 white burns on my oesophagus!

      This is making me feel so low and so emotional also the sleep deprivation dosent help!!

      I really hope you get some answers Shelley smile

      Hi Caroline I also get really dizzy and breathless is so scary. I don’t have a cough or burning sensation. I sometimes feel so bad I feel like I’m not going to wake up in a morning. I will let you know if I get any answers. Take care

      Hi Shelley will be really interested to hear how you get on with the specialist on Thursday.

      I have just started on some new medication and i have everything crossed that it will work for me it's called Emozul it wasn't available as its a really expensive medication and has only just been made available on prescription (so my doctor informs me).

      I'm taking 2 tablets a day at 40mg im hoping they work as I can't take much more of these attacks it's totally debilitating!

      Hi Caroline. I saw my specialist today wasn’t really that impressed. They are going to put a camera down to see if they can find anything but not sure how long I will be waiting for this. Hope you are keeping well

    On a more positive note since March a year ago i had all the same symptoms as you all have mentioned. I finally in December wemt to my doctor. He did blood work, chest xray, and ECG. All were good. On top of the above I had a stuffy nose and an earache all the time. He sent me to a gastro doctor who did a barium swallow and then an endoscopy! Came back a sliding hiatal hernia and inflamed esophagus. 5 biopseys came back clear. I have Acid Reflux. He put me on Omprezole 40mg a day. Strict diet of no caffeine, alcohol, spices, soda etc. Elevate my upper body when sleeping. And because of PPI I take vitamin D3, Calcium, B12, Vit. C and a multi which gets deleted by PPIs. Almost 3 months later I am back to myself! Also I no longer have a stuffu nose, earache , dry mouth! All the other symptoms are gone as well! The PPIs took about a month and slowly felt alittle better. I have an appt. In a few weeks so maybe then I can wean off meds. I did take honey 3tsp. 3x a day. That helps too. Good luck all

      I'm Omprezole 20 mg but its not helping yet. Should I go get the vitamins on my own or should I let my doctor tell me to get them and up my Omperezole? I'm going to start taking the honey three times a day as well. I'm just ready to be normal again. Did you have headache and get dizzy?

      My doctor put me on 40mg. Depends how long you have been on them. Maybe u need to ask him abt. Increasing for awhile. The vitamins I take cause I did research on PPIs and their effects! I did mention them to my doctor and he said it was fine. I felt awful, tired, headache, earache face pain, dizzy, sore throat, pressure in chest, burning, pressure in abdomen short of breath, Google doctor made my anxiety worse.

      Mine to I'm on Ativan for anxiety. I have to go back to the doctor Fri for results on something they sent off when they put the light down my throat. I'll ask then about uping my dosage and the vitamin. What about that honey do you think its safe to start or ask before I do it?

      Could you tell me what Calcium  tablet your taking because I've had problems with them upsetting my stomach
