Lower back also..when you sit in the car or just lay on your bed constantly this stiffness..and this stiffness became progresivelly .slow by slow it went more ..anyone familiair with this? Did you had relief after a decompression surgery?

    Hello,

According to this website (http://www.mayfieldchiaricenter.com/chiari_surgery.php) muscle weakness takes longer to recover from, or doesn't ever go back to normal, after decompression surgery. It depends on how developed the Chiari Malformation is. My back pain developed after my decompression surgery, but I think for many the pain recedes as long as the surgery was successful. Hope this helps!

Hi, I'm new to this website but wanted to respond. I have Chiari, and I also have pain in my back and shoulders quite often. I believe the pain in my shoulders is Chiari related however my lower back is job related. Health care can be pretty tough on ones back and Well, all my years lifting and moving patients off EMS stretcher and beds have caught up to me I think. Now my shoulders feels almost like if someone is pushing down on one side or the other, usually it's my ride Side, while pulling on my arm at the same time. I've discussed this with my neurologist, she's prescribed my muscle relaxers which have helped, but unfortunately I can only take them at night on my nights off, because they make me very sleepy and when I'm hurting it's usually during the day/or at night while I'm at work.
