Chicken pox and shingles - Is it possible?

Hi, I'm a 33 year old female. Just over a week ago I developed chicken pox after exposure to my niece who was infected about 3 weeks previous. My mum said, shes certain I had the chicken pox as a child. The chicken pox rash is severe and widespread. The tiredness and aching has subsided now and blisters have crusted over but I've noticed the upper left side of my body, (arm pit, chest, side and back) has become really painful, it's a burning sensation like electric shocks, it's very painful and distracting, its been this was for about 4 days. Having read symptoms, sounds like the pain associates with shingles but there's no rash that looks like shingles.

A couple of questions:

Is it normal to have this sort of pain with chicken pox?

Is it possible to have both chicken pox and shingles?

Any help is much appreciated as im confused. I was diagnosed by pharmacist but didn't voter with doctors as they said they would only prescribe antihistamines and options which I already had. Now I'm debating whether I need to go.

Thank you,

Maria

You need anti virals immediately. You sound British.

i can’t understand why an MD would give you anti histamines, that won’t kill the virus.

    you need anti virals

I am not sure if they will be effective as this point.

    go to a better md.

    María,

I would indeed be examined by an excellent physician to determine the cause of the symptoms. No, chickenpox does not cause the electric shock like pain, but shingles certainly does. Usually, you do not get chickenpox, again. The rash is on both sides, correct?

Please see a physician to be evaluated and treated. I am sorry I can't help you.

    Best Wishes

    Merry Juliana
