Childhood memories of Italy

There was a time when we were young,

the flowers and trees were always there

for us to pick or climb.

Running barefoot on soft green grass,

chasing the butterflies

or hiding in cornfields full of gold.

Red poppies, daisies and cornflowers,

would make a picture frame

around the fragile corn.

The trees, such easy climb,

for limbs so young

would offer us their prize

of mulberries so sweet....

The sky was always blue,

and the sun would never sleep....

Although, the moon at night

seemed eagerly to shine,

in silvery astral form,

to help us with the chase

of the flikering glow-worm.

And when caught, we'll put it

in a jar, and watch it glow

in the darkness of our room,

until our eyes would close

into a child's sweet repose.

For, tomorrow another day will rise,

and fresh of limb and mischief guile,

we'll run again barefoot

into that field of gold,

under a sunlit sky......

I got in a real muddle.... posted the poem, and everything went :boing:

Wanted to bring on nostalgic magical memories to cuddle us and soothe our troubled brows......because the sky here, is so, so grey, and I am getting really fed up with it ! If I ever win the lottery, I would find my place right up in the Dolomites, were I should be totally alone, lie in the soft grass, in the sun, and let all the grasshoppers do summersalts all over me.....and I look at the blue sky and talk to the trees....I would make sure no one would be near...so they would not put me away..... Dear Granny Moss, Oh what a lovely picture1

I have a similar one I use when I want to get to sleep -a more recent one. It's a place in the Isle of Wight, St Lawrence. It's a place called the Landslip, think like the cliffs being in two great steps, and the place we stay is on the sort of shelf. Anyway I imagine myself, fit and rearing to go, walking from the house, its lovely garden (and the sun is always shining of course), up the very steep path and steps up the \"top\" cliff. I'm not even out of breath as I almost run up :D

Then I see the lovely view as I sit on the seat up there and feel the breeze - no grasshoppers but seagulls. I just stay there, never seem to come down - I suppose I go to sleep! :D :D

Well, the sun is shining here today but it's very cold. I was out this morning and couldn't do up the long zip of my \"duvet\" coat  Still, glad I made the effort to move - Murray was pretty obviously losing by then anyway.

Perhaps we ought to write down some of our lovely memories.

Take care, keep warm, Green Granny

It's in the Dolomites part of northern Italy that we have our flat! We first came here 28 years ago, fell in love with the area and have returned every year since. Now I am privileged to spend most of the year here  . It's not only the area and the weather that are beautiful - the people are too. If anyone wants to see it, google Kronplatz Pustertal and you should get the link for the ski area and if you wander around the site you will find pictures of the villages in the valleys - there is an English version, don't know what it is like as I always use the German version of anything! And it's not just for skiers - it is just as nice all the rest of the year.

I can just imagine Granny Moss lying in some of our higher meadows - the lower ones get a bit smelly in spring so I wouldn't recommend lying in them (especially the one opposite the flat   ),

My favourite picture etched forever on my mind is the most wonderful Lake Annecy in South East France - it's just on the border with Switzerland and I had a day trip there when I worked in Geneva for a spell. The lake surrounded by those alpine covered mountains is just so very beautiful. Whilst there I climbed what seemed like hundreds of steps to a gorgeous little church in the mountains - I'm glad I did it then when I was young and fit and sprightly!
