Chiropractors - will it help ?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have had scolioscis for 20 years and my GP accepted that a Chiropactor may be able to help me - not on NHS of course

I saw a Chiropractor last week who told me that he "MAY" be able to help me - no guarantees though !

I was wondering whether 20 years is too long to fix a major problem like this ?

Any comments/advice welcome

    Hi Steve,

I had scoliosis surgery on my upper back as a child, and 40 years later I started having crippling pain in my lower spine. I tried a few sessions with a chiropractor, but it didn't help me at all. However, Bikram yoga brought tremendous relief after the first 5 session (I went Monday - Friday). 4 years later I still practice 1 - 2 times per week, and as long as I'm consistent, I don't really have any more pain.

      Hi Margaret,

If you don't mind, may I ask what yoga poses you do to help?

    Hi Steve,

It depends on what problems you are having. I went to a Chiropractor on a regular basis for years and overall, long-term I think it made things worse. I had some problems that it helped with, but the relief is only ever really temporary. In regards to your scoliosis curves they can never correct that only provide pain relief. The one main thing it didn't for me was sort my headaches/migraines out through neck and cranial manipulation which was well worth it for me, but an osteopath can treat the same thing.

Where they pull you about it made my joints and muscles weaker and I have problems in that respect now.

I have had much better success in physio and pilates slowly building my core and strengthening muscles around my spine.

I had a dozen sessions with the Chiro - including accupuncture - which seems to havev helped me - at least less pain!
