Does anyone have speech therapy for multiple sclerosis for swallowing or breathing? It was suggested to me by my Dr.

I choke on nothing but I use self hyp, fighting it makes it worse. Mum choked too she was offered speech therapy to help, I told her not to fight it, it is scary I know but trying relaxing methods help. Try hypnosis. I do the same with my foot spasm but not leg muscles spasm

Your dr should refer you to a speach and language therapist (SALT) for a swallowing assessment. They can assess what foods trigger a choking episode and also review this as and when. Having a drink with your meal with also help. Contact your gp to be referred

I have had choking episodes in the past ( can be very scary for all concerned!)  have been referred to SALT before. Exercises and stratergies they give are very good. Its a different way of life, can't eat and talk at the same time! I know its bad manners to eat and talk at the same time anyway!!
