Hubby has had a few chest pains, so we went to the GP where he had an ECG, all pretty normal but we got referred to the hospital anyway, where hubby had another ECG, blood test and we were told that he may have Angina also his Chlesterol levels were high? i am puzzled as to why, we eat a healthy diet, we eat lean proteins, no fats, fruit and veg, we never eat fast foods and all our foods are home cooking and no fats, hubby dosn't drink or smoke, so why???we can't eat any better also he can't exercise as he has chronic Digenerative disc problems which makes him very imobile!!!! so can anyone tell me ,what i do now, how can i lower the chlesterol levels, hubby is a bit overweight but only due to his back problem, not food! he has to go for an Angeiagramm in a few weeks, thank you and awaiting your answer.

If you told us what his cholesterol levels were it would be a great help. But in any case, if I were he, I would not get too hung up on lipids at this stage in his life. That is provided only that he does NOT have a strong family history of early onset coronary artery disease. If he does have that kind of family history then cholesterol levels may be important. Otherwise not.

The angiogram will be definative in sorting out his chest pain and showing up his coronary arteries. My guess is that he will be grand.

A few people have a condition where their liver isn't very good a gauging how much cholesterol there is in the blood, so the liver makes more cholesterol than it should.  This can happen in varying degrees, and is not diet dependent.  The ratio of your husbands cholesterol can be changed, if not reduced, by eating more things that promote "good " cholesterol in the blood.  The good cholesterol helps move the fatty deposits away from the artery walls (I think that's how it works, lol).  I know there are a lot of debates at the moment about omega 3 oils and statins so do a bit of homework.

What are the exact figures he was given (LDL HDL Triglicerides and Ratio)?

thank you for getting back to me, i was confussed, his chlesterol level was 8.2, he has been given statins by the hosp so i will have to look up the rest, it made me cross when the Dr assumed hubby was overweight cos we eat lots of fast foods and rubbish food, when we have a great healthy diet, we don't know about family history as he was adopted and we have no other info about family health probs, but thanks for your messages
