Cholesterol levels higher than normal

I am a 64 year old who's cholesterol levels have always been higher than normal. This is since I started having regular checks from the age of 50, I have never been to worried about them, as my doctors have said that because I have no other health issues, it should be ok. However, as I age, and the more I read about choleserol, blood pressure and sugar levels, the more concerned I have become. My recent colesterol test has come back as follows.

Serum cholesterol 6.20mmol/L

Serum triglycerides 0.9 mmo/L

Serum HDL cholesterol level 1.39 mmo/L

Serum LDL cholesterol level 4.4 mmo/L

Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio 4.5

Se non HDL cholesterol 4.81 mmo/L

I know that some of these readings are outside of the normal range.

My mother did go onto statins in her sixties when her level was found to be 8.0. My father also went onto statins in his 70's.

Please could anyone give me their advice on my readings and whether I should be raising this further with my doctors.

Regards

Neville Leonard

Can't give you advice as I'm not a doctor but I would be happy with your readings.Try the dieting approach rather than statins.

My last total cholesterol reading is was 7 and because of my bad experience with statins have made it clear to my GP that I won't take them. He can see my history and understands. I'm trying to get my cholesterol down by eating lots of green stuff (yuc).
