Chrome disease and bladder

Hi, recently diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, lately been getting very intense pressure in my bladder and pain whilst emptying bladder. I also very urgently need to pee and have trouble holding it in. I am on aizothiaprine and that has been working pretty well. Same pain whilst peeing as I have whilst passing stool. A pressure that builds as a sharp pain, the type that really takes your breath away! Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Katy, I haven't had that experience. I suggest you seek medical advice.

I think because of the condition of your bowel with inflammation etc. It does seem to affect your bladder as well. Maybe because the bowel is so distended that its inevitable. I think most people with Crohns find it difficult to hold on, in fact you cannot wait a second. Many times I have been trying to undo my front door with my legs crossed because it is that desperate. I am a lot older than you so in my day the only treatment was basically steroids, so have no knowledge of what the alzothiaprine does, but everything you take because of the nature of Crohns tends to help in one way and then give you extra problems. When on a flare I had terrible back pain and felt really ill, but it was a bad water infection and I had a block in my bile duct to the liver because of this. I also had a fistula in my front passage which needed to be operated on and removed. It is a Crohns thing, so maybe the trouble with your waterworks is caused by something like this. What I do remember is that excess wind from my bowel which of course you will have experienced, use to make its way down my front passage. Very embarrassing when you are talking to someone, because there was no stopping it. With regard to the pain you are experiencing when you pass stools, although boring you need to find out what food is making this happen, sometimes just grazing lightly with food as opposed to eating big meals could help. Also hot drinks are a no no because the minute the hot liquid hits your bowel you want to go badly and this could be almost immediate. Sorry its not better news for you but if you become pro-active with your own complaint it sometimes helps and you feel less stressed, because lets face it, you spend most of your Crohns life, out of control. I also practiced a breathing exercise to help me calm down. They do seem to think that most Crohns sufferers are stress orientated, which I have to say was not true in my case, although having a good job I remained very laid back about things. They will also continue to ask you all through your Crohns life, if you are a smoker? I don't know why, but after turning green as a teenager when trying to inhale I have never smoked.  I hope my thoughts help you and I am really sorry that you are going through such a bad time. Wage war on your diagnosis it does you good as well placing a more positive approach to your complaint. Crohn's is a horrible complaint to have and as I have said before you need to try and find your own way around it that gives you peace of mind.
