chronic abdominal pain

hello

looking for some advice really iv had chronic abdominal pain on and off for about three years now. iv been to see the GP countless times and after a few tests they said it was most likely IBS and suggested i take Buscopan. for the most part this helped but in resent months the pain has become much worse with sharp stabbing pains. they had changed the medication to mabevarine but to no avail.

A couple of years ago i had an colonoscopy and nothing was found iv been back to the doctor and they say its just ibs and basically deal with it. im lost for what to do now im in agony. also i have kids and they love to climb apon daddy but any sort of pressing on my abdomen causes immense pain.

im moving house in a few mouths and im worried an how this will affect my stomach as im doing the moving single handed.

what do you think i should do? i cant get referred back to gastrointestinal because as far as my doctor is concerned its ibs.

and advise would much appreciated

thanks for reading

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having such a bad time. Have you tried any exclusion diets to find out if you're intolerant to something, for example, have you tried to do dairy free or gluten free diets? There are so many things that could be causing it.

I discovered that coconut yogurt was causing some of my pain, weird.

hi vlad, i read your post and the word chronic hit me as not quite associated with IBS! when you say stomach do you mean above the belly button or below? i wonder if you have trapped acid or gastritis which no amount of mebeverine will help. try some plain old fashioned ant-acid, i only ever use gaviscon. that works on reducing the acid. doctors offers mebeverine or antidepressants because they are cheaper than paying for a scan or other treatment. ask for a scan, a lactose test and to see a dietitian to see if gluten is causing any problems. good luck!

It sounds like chronic wind/gas moving through your gut. Do you eat a lot of vegetables? You have to try and identify what is causing the gas. As others have said, an exclusion diet can be very helpful. Try leaving wheat out of your diet for 2 weeks and see if it makes a difference. If it doesnt then re introduce wheat and leave out all dairy products...milk,yoghurt, cheese, etc etc.If neither of these work then try leaving out all vegetables and so on . It takes an effort but its really worthwhile if you can identify the culprit food. IBS is a general term used for a bowel that is reacting to something but nobody can decide what. If you drink beer that is one possibility as well.

I am puzzled by your reference to kidney pain. Why do you think you have kidney pain?

Do you eat a lot of eggs? Another one for the exclusion diet. You may be surprised when you find out what is causing this.
