Also for anyone considering the surgery and worried about incontinence, my experience was only gas for maybe a week tops. It wasnt uncontrollable, but you could tell everything was a little weaker right after the surgery. I'm a male, 37 years old, so obviously an anatomy difference, but I think the surgery is the only hope for piece of mind. This is health wise the worst thing I've ever experienced, I wish they would have done the surgery up front. Between all the creams and doctors visits over 18 months it would have almost paid for the surgery.

With the surgery within how much time one can start seeing relief in that area. I've read that it can take 6 to 8 weeks for that area to completely heal but does the surgery given any relief in a couple of weeks or so. Thank you.

Small update for anyone interested here. I am currently on day 13 after my LIS surgery.

Still not taking pain killers of any kind. Walking and getting up and down is far easier now but sitting down directly is still a no go although, i've managed 2 small trips in the car to the supermarket over the last couple days.

No incontinence from myself yet but i already notice huge differences in day to day life. I don't wake up terrified of passing stool anymore and when I need to go, I have to make a beeline for that toilet, feels like i don't strain as much too. Still had no muscle spasms as of yet!

I also struggle with water intake but you need to ensure you drink way more than usual in recovery as the laxatives and stool softeners will dehydrate you even more.

    hello all

hope your all still healing or trying to

    i had my consultation today

unfortuantly i didnt get offered the LiS Surgery at this visit but has prescribed the Diltiaziem oitment 2% to try and continue with my three ducloease stool softners one senna at bedtime and 15ml of lactulose morning and night aswell as drinking plently water and watch my diet! he has booked to me in 3 months time to see how ive got on if no improvement then looks like i will get LiS SURGERY

Hey Lou. Maybe the Diltiaziem will work for you. I was prescribed that a few different times and I would seem to get a little better for maybe 2 or 3 weeks, but mine would always come back.

It has been almost 3 months since my LIS and the difference, though not always perfect, has greatly improved my quality of life. The first week or two were tough but it got much better after that. Even now, if I don't watch my diet and drink lots of water I will occasionally have a little harder stool to remind me that fissures can recur. However, the LIS is definitely something I would recommend if your other treatment doesn't work out.

      Hope you find relief.

      hi mkole

im still waiting on the cream as my dr surgery rang me today saying my dr can not prescribe in behalf of the consultant as its a unlinced drug and not on thier list of medicines they can prescribe so have had to ring the hospital and arrange for my consultant to re prescribe it himself! what a palava 

i dont particualy have high hopes for the cream but gave try to it first before im offered the surgery

im glad your feeling much better what a relief eh

i will update you in due course

Not sure where you're located, but here in the US I just had to go to a pharmacy that would do 'compounding', that is mix substances together, to get the Diltiaziem prescription filled. Insurance would not cover it, but it was only about $40-$50 if I remember correctly. It did give me slight headaches when I used it, which is a common side effect.

While it did seem to help somewhat with the fissure, it did not long term, as I mentioned previously.

At least you seem braver than I was, as I put off having the surgery due to fear for several years. I kept hoping it would improve and go away, but it never did.

I must admit for the first few days after it was quite painful, but really not much more than the fissure itself. I took two of the Hydrocodone the day of the surgery (afterwords), but after that I stuck to Advil (Ibuprofen) since I wanted to avoid constipation at all costs. Frequently sitting in a tub of warm water also helped greatly, before and after the LIS procedure.

I certainly extend my best wishes to you, hope you can find relief soon. Don't hesitate to ask if there are other questions you have.

Nfedipine cream wont give you the headaches like NTG, or Diltiazem. After my 8 week checkup my surgeon recommend to start back on it a few weeks. I'm having a small issue with the incision site not wanting to heal, i will have s very small amount of blood after a BM because it just slightly opens even on a soft BM. I'm hoping they don't have to go back in and cauterize it. Its frustrating, but so far its still better than prior to surgery.

Thanks for that info Curtis. I too had a slight issue about a week ago with a BM that was a little harder than what I had been having. This was around week 10 post procedure. I had some bleeding and a little soreness during BM for a couple of days afterward, but nothing like before the procedure. I haven't been back to see the surgeon since I have been doing very well, but what you mentioned sounds a lot like what I experienced. I still have some of the different compounds left, so I may give that a try since that's what the doctor told you. It felt more like incision site soreness than fissure. Mine has improved over the last few days, I'm back to almost 100% but I definitely don't want to go backwards.

      Thanks again for mentioning that.

I also take one generic Colace every night, and drink 8 ounces of prune juice. Ive been doing this even well before the surgery. Its not always easy to eat correctly on the go, and that combination seems to regulate me well. Hard BMs have never really been my problem. Mine all started with antibiotics wiping my system.

It's really horrendous having to cope with this day in day out isn't it. I can't imagine ever feeling normal again. I feel as though I've aged 10 years with pain etched on my face.

      Try and stay positive, 🙄🙄
