Chronic back and joints pain!

HI Everyone,

I am a 25 years old male, i have had chronic back pain for almost 3 years.it started with a stiff neck and upper back and then started going down towards the lower back and the hips, currently my hips are really sore and it radiates down towards my legs and knees it also radiates up towards my ribs, specifically the lower rib feels really hard when touched and extremly sore. the upper back pain also radiates to behind the ears and down my arms, however this is half the story, my joints tend to be very sore if i press them, with the shoulder joint being the worse. I also get muscle twiching and lots of cramps on my feet, thighs, hips and arms. it is also worth mentioning that i dont sleep well as i used to.

I have seen doctors about this, i have had blood tests for arthritis and an x-ray of the spine and found nothing. I have also seen a physiotherapist that gave me some exercises and stretches that did not help much. my next step will probably be an expensive visit to the specialist to see what he says. However i was wondering if someone has experienced such problems? also do you guys think this is Fybromylgia? i thought Fybromylgia drains you to a point where you cant even move.

Have you thought about ankylosing spondylitis?

good pint sophie, particularly as his pain appears to originate from neck and back.  Fibro pain seems to vary so significantly from person to person it's hard for any of us to say if his doctor should be considering it.  My pain is most often arms and upper legs but I know others who have more issues with their back.  Fibro isnt just pain however, its horrible fatigue, fuzzy thnking, and often flu type symptoms too.  Good luck Karam in finding firstly a cause and secondly the right treatment for you.

thanks fro your reply!! I actually have been tested for ankylosing spondylitis and it came back negative. however you mentioned stress/anxiety/ depression as common causes of such pains, though i dont feel much of these aparat of some worrying about stuff sometimes, i think it is something i should mention to my GP the next time, to be honest this pain started when i got full time emplyment (a job which was a bit stressful).

Like you I haven't had depression or anxiety but I have had a lot of stress. I took it when you said tests had come back negative that all detectable stuff had been eliminated.

thanks for your wishes! I have been referred to a rheumotologist by my GP so that will be my next step, though my referral might get declined if deemed not serious, i will go ahead and visit a private one any way and i might even force them to do an MRI (i dont know why doctor frown upon it sometimes).

    Hi,

Different symptoms for different people. Sounds like FMS to me but

request you doctor to write and request an appointment with a

neurologist which is what I did. They are the ones who know best. I wrote down all my symptoms and what affect they had on me, then I checked against what was said about FMS . I struggle with the tiredness but not everyone does.

    Good luck
