Chronic Back Pain + Abdomen Tension

Hi All,

I will keep this short and sweet but please understand that the problems I am having with my back have been going on for 8 years and they vary in the amount of pain I'm in and the type of pain.

So the back problems were caused by a car crash I was in 8 years go, they appear to be just below the mid spine area and I'm told they are thoracic spine problems (sorry I don't have more info on the exact location). I generally manage the pain by seeing Physios, using a home roller to rolle it on my back to relieve tension etc.

Anyway, back problems aren't really the worst thing at present, it's a weird abdominal problem I've been having for the past 6 weeks. It's on the right side ONLY and is sort of below my lowest rib and above my hip but inwards slightly towars my belly button. It feels like a knot/cramp (no pain though) and I ONLY get it when walking. If I place a hand lightly on the affected abdominal area the knot/cramp feeling goes away.

I have made a purchase of a sort of back support thing which is a velcro pad which wraps around my abdomen and back. While I am wearing this I NEVER feel the knot/cramp feeling in my abdomen.

I'm wondering what the hell this could be! Does anyone know what my issue is, is it spinal, muscular, something else entirely??

Have had blood tests, a colonoscopy, endoscopy etc. to rule out other things but as of yet they have found nothing untoward.

Please...please help me with this!

Thanks

    Hi CW?

Have you been checked for appendix problems, more so cronic appendicitis in your case ??

    Regards

      Hi smile

Hmmm, I'd looked into normal appenidicitis but as I had no pain I ruled out the coniditon all together. Chronic appendicitis could be possible I guess...Wouldn't there be some form of pain though? I have none...just an odd tension pressure feeling.

Also would I be able to make it go away simply by placing a hand on the area like I can? Would have thought there would be no relief for it and I'd feel it no matter what if it was appendicitis?

      Hi

I had cronic appendicitis a number of yrs ago and it was similar to the pain you mention, at the time they thought it was chrones disease but eventually my appendix ( 3 and a bit yrs ruptured ) and when the removed it the pain went.

It's hard for dr to diagnose as many don't believe it's real but if you check the net you can see it's well documented and might help explain more.

      Good luck

      Hey!

Wow!! Have done some quick searching and there are MANY well documented cases of this as you say! People have it for years with no real appendix related symptoms and just general abodminal pain and sometimes back pain (both of which I have).

I'll raise this with my doctor and see what he thinks would be best to maybe rule this out (what tests etc.).

      Thank you for the suggestion!

A normal ultrasound can see if you have any swelling, and blood tests. But sometimes these show nothing, and like me you might just have the symptoms before it gets worse.

Might not be but if it is and they think it could be, key whole surgery to have it removed you can recover quickly, if it ruptures like mine it was open and about 8 weeks to recover.

good luck and let us know.

Oh dear! Sounds like you had it rough sad Seems a tricky one to diagnose doesn't it!

See the tension I have does seem a little odd...like at times I do get faint shooting pains but they're not painful and when I crack my back (twist my body to do this) the shooting pains go away.

This (along with the stuff I said about the body harness thing I use now) is why I was thinking it could be back related.

Will see what the doc suggests tomorrow...last time he suggested (and I had) a colonoscopy and endoscopy...not sure why he thought it was bowel related though as BMs are fine, no blood etc.

I had the colonoscopy when they thought it was Crohn's disease so maybe they been thinking the same.

The reson I suggested getting checked for chronic apendix is because you sad about the pain around the belly button. When mine got worse when placing your hand down as hard as you can on the painful area do you get relief? I did and then the pain would be like someone stabbed me for a bit after you release it. But with chronic apendix the symptoms come and go and might not have them for awhile.

      Hope you get sorted.

Yeah could have been that then eh.

And nope...I can press as hard as I like and nothing happens...no pain or anything. As I say I can LIGHTLY place a hand on the affected area and the tension IMMEDIATELY goes away...very weird.

Something else I'll note is that when I lean my upper body to the right when sitting and press on my ribs I can feel a popping...sort of like when you press on the top of a clicky button on a jar...it doesn't hurt but just feels weird. Quick google of this brings up loads of people saying it could be slipping rib syndrome! All over the place with these results when googling...hoping the doc will be able to diagnose it.

Hi, crispyswinger....please have the doctor check out your gallbladder.  It is located on that side and presents with different kinds of pain.  It wouldn't hurt to let him ex Xray it...Hope this helps...

Hmmmmm there's an idea! Right will do!

I was going to ask them to do a CT scan and an MRI too... Unsure if this is all related to my back or not, all seems odd that whenever I wear the back brace thing that ALL the issues go away and then come back as soon as I take it off :-/
