Chronic Compartment Syndrome - or nerve damage to feet

Posted , 2 users are following.

In 2015, I suffered incredibly bad swelling of both feet (from my normal size 9 boots to only size 11 slippers would fit.)  This was a result of drugs I was on for a pulmonary embolus after unrelated surgery.  It went down and feet are back to normal except for a pile of symptoms that match either chronic compartment syndrome or possibly extensive nerve damage - cramps, tingling, acute pins and needles, TIGHT skin from above ankles to toes.  Also prone to stumbling as my feet just don't work.  GPs thought it was circulation, that's been ruled out by a vascular consultant - a neurologist is next - when I finally get to him.  Any ideas - or what can I do to help it. (I can't rest, am on my feet or in a tractor all day every day.)  It's always worse after I've been on my feet more.

    Hi Janet

I am suffering with nerve damage to the foot.  The symptoms sounds the same as yours.  I am now 14 months post op and have tried alsorts without any relief.  I have been told it will take at least 2 years to mend damaged nerves.

Fortunately I'm retired and I can keep resting.  Even when I go out I have to keep stopping, I can't walk any distance and I am a rambler and like dancing.  It has affected my lifestyle. If you get any satisfaction from. Neurologist please let me know because doctors and specialists say there's nothing a neurologist can do.  I have had a nerve conduction test which confirms the nerve damage is the foot but have been told there's nothing they can do.

Thanks Brenda - that confirms what I think - even if the ruddy doctors don't agree.  How did surgery set yours off?  Were you off your feet for a long time?  I assume the Neurologist will give me a nerve conduction test (if he doesn't I'll rpobably smack him in the mouth, lol)  I CAN'T rest - too many horses and too much tractor work to do.

      Hi Janet

After the op I was complaining about my foot and couldn't sleep.  I remember the night sister bringing me a bowl of hot water to put my foot in because it felt ice cold and tingling. I was out of bed and on a walker to go to the toilet the next day after the op.

i can understand your frustration, it's not easy having to look after animals.  Let me know if you get any satisfaction.

      All the best
