Chronic Coughing

Hello

I have been suffering from a bad cough since having a extreme flu in Dec 2014. I stopped for a bit in 2015 but went back to the coughing 24/7. I do sleep but after a bout of really bad cough and constantly clearing my throat.

It is mostly just clearing my throat now but it's so annoying , I can not work it's that bad!

I have done all the thorough pulmonary tests, spirometry and allergy tests several times. I have had a scope done by a GI and ENT saw nothing.

Had chest X-rays all normal. Nobody has brought up a CTScan I was under the impression they are very high in radiation and can cause cancer.

I'm at the point now of going to a natural path, for traditional medicine is saying nothing but I cough all the time.

Anyone have great results with natural remedies, I do not want to take meds just for the sake of it cause there is no answer. Did this for awhile but it's getting me nowhere sad

Thx Robin

You can get them on eBay . I've only just been told I have copd so I go see the lung specialist in June but in the mean time I've started to eat better to build up my immune system

TY Spiritlady for your reply, is coughing one of your symptoms of copd ? How did you develop this, what tests did you have to diagnose this. I have had everything in respiratory that you can think of my lungs are fine ... no allergies ... heart great... actually this past year or so I have seen every specialist for each organ sad the good thing is nothing found except an ovarian cyst but that isn't the result of me my symptoms .

Take care of yourself ... any conditions or food to eat or not eat told to you?

I was just the same after having pneumonia. Turned out to be post nasal drip. .get a neilmed sinus rinse bottle from the chemist and use to clear your nasal passages and sinuses

You can make your own rinse with 1 tsp of salt, 1tsp of bicarb of soda and 1 pint of water. (Boiled)

    Good luck, worked for me.

Thx beverley for your input... I do not have post nasal drip . I have seen an ENT dr 3x in the last year. Plus aside from the exam I got a scope that was fed in my nose down my throat.

No problems anywhere and was told no drip.

Ido use the saline spray 1x a week since I don't have problems in the sinuses I am not to use it too much.

When I was very ill with the flu I was in the ER 2x in 10 days. They said all is clear in my lungs and chest X-ray good. It was then I was booked for a pulmonary function test. I'm sure you had this test, I was fine!

So you can see my frustration with my chronic cough of 15 months.

      Thx Robin

    Hello Robin

If it started after a URI and you have nothing, it might be a neurogenic cough triggered by a viral infection.

I have this too, and had it for 6 years, after reading about it on the internet and trying anti depressants it has been reduced. I am also trying other things and seems someday it will dissapear. I have hardly any cough anymore, just mainly a throat clearing and globus

Take a look a "Laryngeal Sensory Neuropathy", "Irritable Larynx Syndrome", or "Post Viral Vagal Neuropathy". It's also known as "Sensory Neuropathic Cough" and there's a great video from Bastian's Institute explaining it and lots of articles.

If you were a healthy guy, and suddenly got this after an upper erspiratory infection. It's highly probable you have this.

    Take care!

      Hi

Thanks for the info , my GP once wanted to give me antidepressants but I refused. I'm not depressed I cough sad

I have seen many specialist and done tests they can't find anything... this is what is frustrating. I have coughed near 15 months ... well now it's more clearing my throat constantly. I can't imagine 6 yrs ... Yikes!

No, this doesn't mean you are depressed. It can happen to anyone and it is rare. But tends to happen after an upper respiration infection.

Look for what I told you, and specially pay attention to Bastian's video. If that sounds like you, you probably don't need other explanation

This also triggers globus, tight throat and mucus to many people, they are part of the same thing

It's been 6 years for me, yes, 4 of them where I lived with it because nobody knew anything. After looking on the net, everything became so clear. I took a different than reccomended anti depressant for one year in May 2014 to September 2015. After one month and a half I replaced the coughing by a throat clearing more or less and kept improving until now even without taking the medicine. However if it doesn't get well I might try again

    Take care
