Chronic Cystitis - any advice?

Posted , 6 users are following.

I am 18 years old, i have been suffering from cystitis symptoms most days since November 2014. The last time i tested positive for an infection was in january but i still get the severe abdominal pain, burning when i urinate, fever, and occasionally sore kidneys. With every bad flare up i have been going straight to the doctors to try and get answers but everytime i have just been given more and more antibiotics even though they do nothing for me and i have no infection. They finally reffered me to the urology specialist but i have been waiting ages for my appointment; i feel like the doctors arent listening to me and keep fobbing me off with antibiotics and im worried i will become immune. I have changed my diet and only drink either water or cranberry juice but this hardly helps. Is anyone in the same situation regarding the doctors and can give me any advice on how to speak to the doctors or any coping strategies for cystitis? Would be much apappreciated thank you

    Hello.

I'm so sorry you're going to such a miserable time. You definitely need to see a specialist. When in the past I've mentioned intersticial cystitis and normally they look at me funny as if they have no idea what that is. You're saying that you have a fever idk

    Hi Adele,

I am a lot older than you but I've been suffering with water infections for two years now. I have been referred to a bladder nurse and also physiotherapists to strenthen my pelvis. Last May they started me on a constant course of antibiotics one a night for a year. They alternate the tablet every month so I am on three different ones each month so my body doesn't get to used to them. I was also told to take actimel drinks as this will rebuild my immune system which I

did. I actually bought bought Acidophilus tablets from Holland and Barratt which rebuild your immune system and have much higher in dose than the actimel, and I did feel much better and the infection seemed to clear up until January when I was ill with a chest infection.  Since I  had the infection I have had recurrent water infections again and its really getting me down now. I have seen a urologist recently and I'm now waiting to have the camera inside my bladder to see if that find what the problem is.  Unfortunately for me I can't have cranberry juice or anything with cranberry in it due to some of my other medication, but I do drink plenty to try and keep flushing it away. The urologist told me that the problem is down to the design of women, and the closeness of the bowel and the uretha and the infection comes from the bowel.  I have been told not to wear trousers and to wear loose panties, and not to wear panty liners which I do wear. He also told me that every time I pass a motion to wipe myself as normal with toilet roll and then wipe myself with wet wipes at least three times. I have been doing this but can't say that its helped any so far as I am back on antibiotics again for another infection.  I did see on here that Marshmallow tea is good and also another product which I was going to order called D-Mannose which is really successful. Unfortunately it contains cranberry so I can't take it myself, but I am going to see if I can take the marshmallow tea. If I were you especially being so young I would buy some of the dmannose and see if it helps you.

All the best and please let me know how you get on.
