Chronic Diarrhoea and Weight Loss

Hi,
My husband has had chronic diarrhoea for 3 weeks and has lost lots of weight, 3lbs this last week alone. He has always had diarrhoea on and off these last few years but has never had weight loss with it. He looks like a bag of bones (he’s only 35!). He took a stool sample to the dr but after a week they said they couldn’t test it because it was more solid than liquid. I’m worried as it’s getting worse, now he empties his stomach almost straight after a meal and goes about 5 times a day. I’m thinking the worst obviously. Can anyone advise on what it could be?

That's ridiculous of them to say they couldn't test it because it was solid, of course they can test solid samples. Tell him to do another sample and make them test it. Also get them to do his bloods, liver profile etc.

i had diarrhea for 6 months , 3 times a day . immodium did not work, but the doctor was not ready to give prescription without endoscopy and colonoscopy. one these test are completed , they said i have malabsorption and they prescribed colestipol , they said first 5 days i will still have loose stools, 6th day the diarrhea will stop. It worked exactly they said and it stopped on 6th day and next 2 days i took half tablet and my stools were normal and then i stopped taking the tablet. But make sure to do stool test results are negative.I suffer with gastritis for a long time, then after 6 months of diarrhea, it was stopped by colestipol tablet and after 2 months i had severe bloating and burping ,did ultrasound and found i have gallstones. I'm only 37.
Do colonoscopy for colon and check for gallbladder for stones

I’m sorry he feels poorly. No one on this site can diagnose him. He needs to be seen by a gastroenterologist and possibly have a colonoscopy, ultrasound, blood work, etc
he needs to stay hydrated.
Dont let your mind go negative. Be there for him and support him.
But the only way to treat him is to get a diagnosis first.
Insist on further tests are a specialist.
Take care 🌸🌸🌸🌸
