Chronic Eye Pain

Hi,

I've been suffering from chronic eye pain for four months. My optometrist said my eyes are fine apart from dry eyes, but the OMEGA-3 pills, hot compresses and lubricating eye drops she prescribed are not completely eliminating the pain. I'm therefore wondering what I should ask a prescription for to alleviate the pain. Restasis? Cequa? Ciclosporine? Something else? The pain is constant, like knives in my eyes. The only time I don't feel it is when I'm asleep. I've gotten to the point that I prefer the hours I'm asleep to the hours I'm awake. Apart from that, I feel the pain every waking minute of every waking hour. You can understand why, I feel, 2021 has absolutely sucked hard. Any suggestions on what would relieve the pain would be greatly appreciated, to the point that I will literally pay you money. I'm dead serious. If you can steer me to what will take the pain away, I'll wire you money to show you my thanks. That's how much I want to get rid of the pain, which has robbed me of enjoyment of the last four months. Thanks in advance.

Eric, if you are suffering from dry eyes, which it sounds like, then you have to lubricate, lubricate, lubricate. If you are constantly looking at screens/computers/phones then try to cut down. Dry eye syndrome is becoming more and more common as we look at these things....we are forgetting to blink and the glands in our eyelids become sluggish so dont provide the natural lubricant.I have had this for 15 years and have at last found my own regime which has helped enormously.

I use Simple eye ointment every night and also wear very close fitting polarised glasses when outdoors. Keep away from air conditioning, fans, smoky fires, pollen...anything which has small particles which may irritate. What you are doing is good....Omega 3 several times per day or Buckthorn oil capsules are great.Hot compresses are good but can eventually irritate the eyelid so maybe only alternate days. Dip a cotton bud in vaseline and lightly work along the flat part of the eyelid behind the lash line. Do on alternate days when not compressing. Dont get any soap in your eyes when showering......only let plain water run over your face. I will send you a PM

I had similar issues with my eyes. Two years ago I started a different job that requires me to use a computer for most of the day under florescent lights. I had tired eyes, tight eye muscles and it would not go away.

The 1st eye doctor diagnosed me with allergies and prescribed me eye drops. It only helped me a little bit but my issues came back a few months later.

The 2nd eye doctor diagnosed me with MGD - Meibomian gland dysfunction which causes dry eyes and similar symptoms. No mater how often I used hydration drops or warm compression to eyes, my symptoms did not totally go away. I had chronic eye pain for 6 month until my 2nd eye doctor forwarded me to a dry eye specialist.

He did a bunch of tests and diagnosed me with Ocular Rosacea which is common if your face blushes during certain situations and certain triggers can make it worse.

He prescribed me 100mg of Doxycycline Hyclate and within 3 weeks, my eyes were back to normal and it has been 6 weeks with no symptoms.

My theory is that this began a few weeks after the birth of my firstborn which I had issues with stress and anxiety. That triggered my Ocular Rosacea. My next bout came after stress and anxiety from the pandemic.

I would suggest that you ask your eye or family doctor about Ocular Rosacea and treatment. I was lucky to find the right doctor to fix my issue.

    Good luck!
