Chronic halitosis

Posted , 5 users are following.

I'm literally at a stand still and on the verge of suicide. Most of my adult life I have suffered from extreme halitosis. I mean it's so bad I've cleared entire rooms when I speak. Contrary to what people think my hygiene is impeccable. Dentist have praised me on how through I am. I've also tried probiotics and dieting pretty much if you name it I've probably tried it and nothing seems to work. It effects my social life so bad I literally have no communication with people past one word replies. If Does anyone have some advice?!!!

Will, I'm so sorry to hear about this, it must be awful for you.

You say you've tried pretty much everything, but have you seen an ENT doctor? Sometimes tonsil stones or a persistent postnasal drip can be the source of the problem.

I know that specialist halitosis clinics exist in some regions though I've never used them myself. These look into all the possible causes of bad breath. Perhaps you could do an internet search to try and find one of these, if you haven't already?

Just one other possibility comes to mind - and it's only the word of one single dentist so I don't know how valid it is. A few years back I was talking generally to my dentist and remarked that my father had always produced abnormally large amounts of dental plaque. Although he was very careful about dental hygiene and went for three-monthly descaling (very necessary in his case) he'd lost most of his teeth to gum disease by the time he got into his 50s. My dentist said this metabolic problem, which I fortunately didn't inherit, was avoidable these days. Apparently dentists can now prescribe a chewing-gum that adjusts the pH of the saliva, making it less acid. We then went on to the fact that my father also had severe lifelong halitosis, for which he never found a solution. The dentist said the two problems often went hand-in-hand, and the pH-adjusting gum could have helped both.

I have no idea whether all this is fact or merely the opinion of one single dentist. I didn't need to try it out myself, as I have a low rate of plaque formation and only have bad breath first thing in the morning (like most people).

I hope you can soon find a solution for your distressing problem.

You MUST seek medical attention. There IS a diagnosis and a solution to your problem and you MUST find it. Your dental hygiene probably has nothing to do with your condition. It's more likely something internal.

I'm thinking sinus and post nasal drip as well. I believe that bicarbonate of soda is excellent. .homeremediesforlife. Is a an excellent source. I'd be looking at home made tooth paste as well. I can assume you are scrubbing your tongue and scraping it. Good luck. I had bad breath from dry mouth. It led to me needing all my teeth removed. So keep at it. Good for you trying this site. It's an excellent resource.
