Chronic hives

Posted , 2 users are following.

i M 60, still going through the menopause and since September started having an itchy scalp. Then rash appeared on my upper body then turned into hives. I have had full blood tests, X-rays to no avail. I have an under active thryoid and high blood pressure.  The Drs just don't know what it is and I am getting desperate. It is always worse at night and ruining my life. Any one have this problem.

Hi Heather, I'm sorry for you,  I have had the same thing but it turned out to be an autoimmune disease.

Have you looked at the side effects of any drugs you are on?

Is it something that goes with an underactive thryroid?

Are you on HRT?  Has that helped.

Then we go down the antihistamine avenue!  One of my GPs eventually gave me Hydroxyzine which is a sedating antihistamine, it helped me sleep through the itching.

Finally, have you been referred to a Dermatologist?  The waiting lists are long, so the sooner you get on the list, the better.

Thank you I have had full bloods, X-ray of chest, been down antihistamines, dermatologist who prescribed steroids which did last till I came off. I know my blood pressure tablets cause some of the problem but hage tried three types and hives react to all. I am going to try and get referred to a blood pressure specialist next. I was fine till I started the menopause

I was ok until I stopped the HRT.

Do you still have access to the Dermatologist?  It might be worth discussing the Hypertension with him,  I know mine is pretty good on a multitude of topics.

The only antihistmine that had any impact on my itching, was the Hydroxyzine

I see the dermatologist on 28th and am asking my dr to send me to a blood pressure specialist. I know they are not helping but need to keep taking them as it is dangerous  I am slim fit and have had hypertension since I was 26. No none reason. Will keep you posted.  I have seen a hormone specialist who recommended hrt but my dr won't put me on it. Hormones who'd have them rather shave everyday of my life!

I hope all goes well for you Heather.

Our bodies are great until they decide to do their own thing!
